As of right now yes. Might be bumming a seat in the staging area, but I should be able to get away for a couple days.
Plus I was thinking about being a vendor again.

I'll be out there two weeks later for the Leadville 100 MTB race on August 15th ; can't justify staying out for 2.5 weeks and can't come out and back twice in that short amount of time. Bummer!

As a result of the efforts of another in your profession, there is an even greater chance I might be there. That said, the new trail rig is progressing slowly, in spite of piles of new parts arriving from Abingdon on an almost daily basis (well, except for those that keep getting seized by CBP/DHS.

Isn't your place up the gorge from Pueblo? Or is it above the Springs?

I'm saving a special spoon night just for you...Right after a vodka bomb. Are vodka bombs frowned upon in CO in the middle of summer?

It makes more sense to do my house in the springs Wed and than Brendon's thurs night. and camp friday in leadville.

I will have my rig ready. I even have a tow rig now.

We should do indy earlier in the day due to the heat there that time of year.

If any one else wants to join us they are welcome to.

My house is up for crashing whenever, its in Conifer(Evergreen), but it probably make more sense to camp near carnage on Friday PM as Leadville and Holy Cross is a short drive. Otherwise we'll be driving an extra 3 hours for what, a hot tub and spooning? I thought about the Vodka bomb this weekend when I was sking at A-basin, but pretty much a bad idea in CO. I think Tis said that weekend was bad for him, I doubt Jevne would make the trip but I'll ask, Ben ??? Jorden???

B-man, I thought you were west of Pueblo...I see your NW of the Springs.

Soooo, how about trashing Eddie's place on Wed's night, then early Thursday morn hitting Penrose hard until we overheat (good call Ed).

Then we motor to Salida/Buena Vista and cool off for the rest of the day by the Ark. When I was kayaking full time there used to be many places to camp along the river...Not sure now with all the greenies closing every turn-out along the Ark. There was a great spot(s) at the put-in of number One (above Buena)...Full tow-rigs and trailers might prove difficult though.

Then then head to Carnage Friday morning for a little lovin'.

The question then is what to do with Friday/Sat night. I've been THROUGH Leadville a million times, but never considered camping there. Maybe we can camp near the trail-head of Holly? Suggestions?

<EDIT> If anyone is into hangin' with us on this madness run feel free to join. Might not be exactly Nat Rally centric but we will be there and the adventure will be fun!

If you save some hard stuff for Fri/Sat/Sunday I could probably make it up there. I don't have any time off, but I might be able to get Friday off (travel on Thurs after work).

Frank should be gtg with some fancy new trailing arms in back (to replace the ghetto repaired bent one from like 5 years ago at CC).

I'd likely be down for some campin' as well.

Sounds like a plan...there is BLM type camping around Carnage and it is all close to the Ark so plenty of options. There are also private campsite type stuff around there, some right on the river, but Dougs celebrity status and all the 'baggage' that goes with that it would be best to stay away from people IMO. I know some really nice camp spots around Holy X assuming they're available, we'll can make room.

Glad to hear about Lane, Bill, and others. The 'weather man' is right, Penrose will be hot, but Moab in August can be like hell on earth, believe it!

July will creep up quick, I guess I better start getting the rig ready.

Guess I'll have to make sure the cooling system is working correctly for Moab. Thanks for the warning. I'm not sure when I'm going to get another chance to make it there so hey I guess I'm going to have to deal with the heat. Dry heat is better than the muggy Florida heat.

Lane,

I don't know if you'll save any time going to Leadville if you want to run Penrose (Indy) trail system with us. BUT if you do, then my suggestion is that you meet us at Eddy's place Wed's night (in Co, Springs), then go down to Pueblo (Indy) from there.

From Penrose I was suggesting that we head to Salida/Buena Vista Co, the same day (Thurs), to relax/camp near the Arkansas River. Friday we haul to the Carnage trail head (easy, quick drive). With Carnage my feeling is that if we all run it clean, we'll be done quick....If we break then it's gonna' be a long day (right Ed/Burendun?). Then we haul up the road to Leadville and rendezvous with the rally crowd and camp that night (or as Bruendun suggested find a camp spot a Holy X).

Sat would be Holy X with the rally crowd and festivities in Leadville later that day (???).

Now, with all that said, it's really up to Eddie as to whether or not crashing at his place is cool. Assuming that it is, both Eddie and Bruendun need to weigh in on the rest of the 'plan'. Honestly I'm open to anything, but having never run Carnage, I vote for that regardless of the order.

People are welcome to stay at my house in springs. it is small house so you will need a sleeping bag and pad.

plus with Doug there sleep your back with one eye open.

The plan is thurs to run indy and camp at Arkansas near carnage. On friday run Carnage and than camp at or near leadville. if we want the trailhead holy cross if good for camping.

From leadville the fastest way to get to springs is to head south and than east on 24 to springs

thanks

I'm going to think about it. It is going to be very expensive on gas (12 Mpg towing with 05 RR) and the cost of hotels, and using my vacation days. I'll see how far along I get on the Range Rover by then. I'd like to build a cage and some new bumpers and maybe chop the top. I guess we'll see, I have a lot of work ahead of myself!

I don't know how far all these places are from the rally (leadville)
Some things don't seem to work well for vendors who need to do the actual rally stuff; for instance, doing Carnage on a day where I HAVE to be back early afternoon for vendor night seems a little foolish.
I assume Jordan, Matt, and Keith would have the same problems.
Would anyone be interested in doing the out of town stuff earlier in the week; say Tues, Wed, Thurs rather than Thurs, Fri, Sat?
This would help avoid rally schedule conflicts and allow vendors to make it.

rock90
05-26-2009, 01:09 PM
Carnage C and Holly Cross are both about a hour from leadville. so doing them in a day should not be a issue.

I can not speak for the others but I will not be able to change the days due limited vacation time.

Changing the dates won't work for me either. BUT! Like Ed said, Leadville is only an hour drive. If we hit the canyon early enough, there should be plenty of time for the vendors to moto up to Leadville and set-up.

Keeping the experienced guy's up front with the built and tested buggies, should keep the pace moving along. However as we all know, all it takes is one thing going snap to make it a looong day.
