it stops you from blowing beads, or allows you to air down lower without poping the tire off the rim. put on your flame suit.

are you asking about beadlocks or streetlocks:rainbow:

streetlocks are just for looks, beadlocks are for function - if you don't know why you need them, you probably don't need them:flipoff2:

You must be one of the dumbest individuals on th planet.

They are called BEAD LOCKS for a reason. The lock the bead on the wheel.

Wow, if I was told that someone would ask what beadlocks are for, I would have never believed them, WOW... LOL.

listen to yourself, first, why should i respect you, you may be a very respectable person in real life, but your are a newbe here, you cant just demand respect, you have to earn it.

secondly, that is the great thing about this board, there are little to no pointless useless posts, i read most posts, and can say i learned something from each one, but not this one, if you really didnt know what beadlocks are, go to JU.

Can you repeat the question... what are the advantage of wheelin with beadlocks? is it just for looks? thanks BEADLOCKS I would guess that they LOCK THE BEAD OF THE TIRE (THATS THE ROUND RUBBERY THING) TO THE RIM (THATS THE HARD METAL THING) allowing you to air down your tires to almost nothing.... THE ROUND RUBBERY THING THAT IS

Spelling must be the other half then, right?

I got my beadlocks for fun... I like when the bolts break on the street and shoot towards vehicles... It's especially fun for bikers and pedestrians. It's more of a james bond thing than appearance, or function on the trail.

You guys have all fawked up with your explanations. You first need to explain what a tire is and what a rim is, then work up from there for a full understanding of this very technical issue that the question was originally about.:flipoff2:

And, if you have to ask... Beadlocks are legal in EVERY state in the U.S. and every province in Canada. Until you get caught with them.

Thats some funny shiet! "All of the others" have been trying to emulate this one! Count yourself lucky that this board is much more tame than it used to be!
faukin newbies:flipoff2:

Beadlocks aren't for everyone. They require constant attention, and are practically impossible to balance. For many people, the money is better spent elsewhere. If you are losing the tire off of the bead due to low air pressure, then step up to bead locks. Also, if you wheel on the steep, scary off camber stuff (ie. Moab) beadlocks could offer an extra margin of safety.

Check the DOT rules, if ya want.

Or Champion's website http://www.championwheel.com for a "message from the president" or something like that.

Bascially, the only thing a wheel has to have to be DOT legal, is a stamp in the shell that says three things: Manufacturer's name or symbol, date of manufacture, and the letters DOT. On most wheels, it's on the OD of the shell, towards the tire, so you can't see it with a tire on anyway... but as long as the stamp is there, it's DOT legal.

Phew, close one. My gf just bought a 99 TJ sport two days ago... She doesn't need any more objects protruding at her from behind or under the seat than she already has...

She's a wise shopper though; "Chad, how do I pop the hood?" -- "you don't honey, it's sealed for life. When you have to change the oil, you take it in and let them replace the motor from underneath"

"Chad I don't think it's a 4x4... It's got this lever-pull-thing that says 4-hi on it, and the salesman told me I probably shouldn't use that, unless an emergency" -- "You definitely don't want to pull that. Remember what happened last time you pulled MY lever?"

"Chad, can't you just stick your tires on it?" -- "No" -- "Well, can't you just like twist a bolt and make it go higher, and stick your tires on it?" -- "maybe, I'll look after supper"

There, america, is your typical 4x4 owner. She's scared to take it over 50 MPH when it's windy because it "blows all over the place", and has absolutely NO idea how to engage 4 wheel drive. However, she has one of the most capable factory 4x4's ever offered.

Why am I ranting about this hear?! argh..
