Satan's Chariot

This is starting to make me mad! It sounds so simple, and it might be? I recently bought a 14 bolt FF and the vent tube "elbow" fitting was broke off. I speant close to 3 hours trying to get it out and searching the internet trying to find info on it. The vent on my front Dana 44 was loose enough to pull out. I first thought it was threaded, but the threads were horizontal as opposed to diagnal like a bolt. I finally got the vent on the 14 bolt to spin, but not pull out. There is nothing to grab because it is now flush with the axle housing. I have come up with two options: weld something to the remaining vent tube so I can yank it out, or drill it out.
I also went to Carquest today to buy new vent fittings for the front and rear axles. The salesman said he didn't know where to buy them other than a salvage yard! Really??? If this is true, I would rather put some lock tite on the front one that is somewhat loose. As for the rear we thought about welding a nut over the original 14 bolt vent hole and screwing in some sort of hose fitting.
So my question is, what are your thoughts for the rear and do you have any suggestions for getting the old fitting out? If this is way more simple than I am making it, I am sorry. It's really pissing me off and I don't want to waste any more time on it.
