So i just one of my jeeps for a 77 scottsdale. havent had alot of time to really dig into drivetrain, but have a problem. i know i have a 205, dont know much bout em. but right now, i cannot get it to shift into any 4x4 gear, can only have it in 2 hi. is there a trick to these? common problems?

will the stick even move/wiggle?

does it move and flop around freely like its not attached to anything?

did you look under it to see if its free of dried up dirt clods?

did you put the tranny in neutral?

Uh, Have you tried to do it while pulling forward slowly, or are you trying to do it sitting still.

They typically shift pretty easily when rolling forward slowly. Probably not the right way, but it works for me.
