I know I've seen it done, admittedly just in a magazine.

I figured that if ANYONE would have manual locking hubs it would be someone in this crowd.

I was hoping that I'd get lucky and find someone who actually had pics of this.

It's just a Warn FF kit for a D44

Friend's Dynatrac rear 60 w/ discs, 4.88's, and Detroit.

He was having problems with the lockouts breaking or something and managed to get Dynatrac to give him a couple drive flanges to get rid of the lockouts.

alrighty...since I can't seem to find anything on this...

I'm bringing this back from the dead...

Can locking hubs off of a front axle be fit to a full floating rear axle?

sure.

You can but I wouldn't. Drive flanges would be a much better choice.

+1 run drive flanges. The old Warn D44 full-floater kits had problems with the hubs unlocking (even with a set screw holding the dial in the locked position).

I think the only reason you would have disconnecting hubs on the rear axle was if you had modified a semi-floater to be a full floater. I would put hubflanges on the rear axle and if it was a trail only rig I would have hub flanges in the front as well.

But if you have a very quick spotter he could use the hubs and you could do front digs, but IŽd just get driveline disconnects or another t-case.:flipoff2:

I've seen some toyota full float kits with hubs, since they use front inner shafts and front spindles and hubs. Usually upgrade to flanges, but hubs would be nice to flat tow.

I ran drive flanges on my old rear 60 using 14B spindles and front 60 wheel hubs. I'm not really sure what you are wanting to know other than looking for pictures. Its pretty simple really. Use front wheel hubs on the rear FF axle and then add locking hubs/ drive flanges, and Double splined shafts.

In my case I did it to get rid of the crappy FF shaft flanges, go 35 spline and gain 6 lug wheel hubs. The bolt pattern on a 60ff axle shaft is too large to be able to fit a 6 lug rim over even if you did turn the hub down and redrill for the 6 lug.

Yes, the Warn Dana 44 and Dana 60 hubs may unlock with alot of road driving.

The only advantage is to flat tow with all hubs unlocked.

WHy do I want to do this?

I'm installing tandem axles under my van and would like the ability to unlock the axles so that the driveline to the rear most axle doesn't spin all the time, hopefully adding some longevity to the joints in that driveline.

Similar to a Semi Tractor, I plan to drive mostly off of the forward most axle...with the ability to power both axles at 1:1 and if need be go to 1.96:1 for both.

As another option I've read about driveline disconnects...unfortunately I don't believe there is room/space for that.

That's only going to work if you have a t-case that will disengage that shaft as well.

In your case, seeing the pics of that van, I wouldn't use hubs.

You've seen my van?

did I post some pics and forget?

ya she is a big ol pig, with a curb weight of around 5000lb(and I have NO idea when the last time she saw that low of a weight)...maybe I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and just let things spin...:(

You've posted pics in the tandem rears thread before;)

It's kinda cool, so don't put a weak link in there.

I had them on my old 44. Nice for flat towing but that is it. Mine did come unlocked a couple of times and scared the shit out of me. Do it only if flat towing with dana 300 is your only option.

Did I miss what the axle you are wanting to do this to is? Bolt pattern?

Dana 60 Full Float out of an E350 Van, 3.5" axle tubes, 32 spline axles, 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern, 9/16" studs....

Does that help?
