I've bought them for $1.00. Find an older one that has no smog stuff on it. Get the Q-Jet Book from HP Books. I have always like them because of their tunablility. You will find either people will love or hate them. The haters usually like Holleys.

you want 76 up. look for the number on the drivers side of carb. it should start with 170. also check the throttle shaft. there should be no play. excessive play causes a vacuum leak which can cause idle issues. there is a link on the qjet page in my sig that shows how you can fix a loose throttle shaft with inexpensive tubing from the hobby store...

Good deal. Find me one like that
It's a 1979 350 light duty that came with 52 rods and 72 jets. make sure they match up and you'll have the best chance of it running very well from the start.

No I'm not a walking encyclopedia. lol. I have a big big book with every Rochester carb from 1960-1991 (efi included) so I looked it up for you.
Main jets and rod changes are the biggest source of problems with a q-jet (other than aftermarket rebuilders). If you can start with it in stock configuration it will be a lot easier to work with.

hey you gave me enough answers to convince me, but i found a site with the break down of the model number so that helped me out alot. i do plan on rebuilding it when i get it. so i will make sure to keep it all original. thanks for all your help though.

You've done well. I just hope a rebuilder didn't get hold of it... anything quadrajet, just ask. :D
