Who makes the loudest exhast system for 96 PSD? I've heard some dodge's exhaust that just sound bad ass. One of them had the exhaust exiting right behind the cab. Would he be running a straight exhaust (no muffler)?

that would be a straight pipe.....there is noi way to get anything louder....and a PSD will never sound like a dodge...

why would you want it to be loud?

I dont know about doing a staright pipe on a PSD, you got to do a full system to get the right power gains, just for sound and lose some power in the process forget that. But a really well sounding system for the PSD go to flowmastermufflers.com you can download sounds bites of there PSD exhaust in action it sounds bad-ass.

straight pipe oon a PSD is not a loss... on the 97-older get a 3.5in down pipe and a 4in tail pipe, no muffler/cat/responator, best you're gonna get...

Ha whatever! All dodges sound like shit. Why would you want a truck that is loud? (Maybe you are still in high school) Go buy a John Deere if you like the sound of a tractor.

Why would I have to be in highschool to like a loud exhaust? You must be to make a comment like that. Anyway the reason I wanted to know who makes the loudest exhaust is because I had the exhaust off my truck the other day and had to move it. The down pipe up was the only thing on. I was expecting it to be loud. You hardly tell you were missing the exhaust. That is why I think that even if you straight piped it, it still wouldn't be loud.

Speaking of cats when did they stop putting them on PSD. My 96 has one. Would it hurt to get rid of it.:)

I think 99.4 they stopped doing cats on PSD?:confused: Anyway, I agree with Aggiecj7, a PSD will never sound like a Dodge. :flipoff2: BTW I have a PSD and the muffler is staying on.

FYI I'm not going to a straight pipe. Just looking into putting a system on.

What do most of you guys run?

cat's stopped in early '02 jan 16th to be exact ;) the date they turned the motor's to 275hp on autos ;)

Hey DSI was sorry to hear about your problem, but you should realy watch when some one else fuels your truck. What if you needed 92 octane and they filled it with 87 and you popped a piston or 2. That would have been harder to prove than gas in the diesel tank. Maybe you should convert to a 2.5 ton multi-fuel engine in your rig, then you could burn about anything.

ummm my 2002 built in june has a cat. Anything Cal emissions will have a cat...

Will it get flanged and have a test pipe put in umm nope :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

It may sound bad ass, but flowmasters have been proven to be some of the WORST mufflers for a turbocharged vehicle.. and they're not that great on a N/A vehicle at higher RPM's.. They sound good, but are restrictive.

Mine is a 2000 PSD and has no cat.

My 99 doesn't look like it has a cat. Or.....the cat looks like a muffler.

It's just like every other vehicle. CA emissions are more strict. The 49 state PSD's got rid of the cat in mid 99.

The EPA has detirmined that diesel smoke is bad for you..

I am waiting for smog tests for diesels.. Its coming boys and girls, just a mater of when now..

We already have them in Colorado. They do a load test on a rear wheel dyno and test the opacity of the smoke. Opacity is the amount of light that can pass through the exhaust. My '97 passes with flying colors even without anything in the cat but a piece of straight pipe connecting the inlet with the outlet.:flipoff2:

Straight pipe on a PSD is anything but loud. I have the factory 3.5" pipe behind a Hypermax 3" downpipe (3.5" won't fit pre-99). A piece of pipe has been welded in where the muffler used to live. I get more noise from the turbo spooling that actual "loud" noise. Most importantly my EGT's dropped about 150 degrees when I eliminated all the restrictive devices. I'm going to go to 4" and see how it helps.

That's what I was waiting to here. There is noway that it can be loud. Do you think that your turbo spools up at a lower rpm. FYI with just the down tube mine started up off of idle.:confused:

Less restriction = lower rpm for the turbo to start kicking in

It didn't really spool up any quicker than with the rest of the exhaust hooked up. You can just hear it better with only the downpipe connected. My boost actually comes in at a higher RPM range than with the old exhaust intact. I lost a little bit of low end, but the gains in top end and lower EGT's are well worth it. I'm seeing 22 lbs of boost now where I never could get over 16 with the muffler/cat in place.
