To anyone that has replaced an LT77 in a 90/110 with a ZF auto: Did you have to change driveshafts or anything like that? I'm about to fit a ZF LT230 rover V8 combo into a frame that had a 2.5NA diesel and LT77/TL230 in it. I'm working out where to put the engine and trans mounts at this point. I would like to keep the LT230 in the same spot so that I can use my drive shafts but I haven't made up my mind yet. Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks.

My understanding (ie I have read/seen pics but not measured in person) is that you would have a "short shaft" LT77 and the 2.5 is ~8in further back in the frame than a V8 or 300TDi, but the lt230 is in basically the same spot.

So what I would say is just go for it and position the engine mounts whereever they need to be based on the position of the LT230.

PS what is wrong with the LT77/2.5/LT230 you have now? The LT230 should be a 1.67ish model if memory serves me.

The frame used to have a 2.5na diesel LT77 and LT230 in it. It is a bare frame at this point but need to be on the road in time for the Northwest Challenge in Oct. To do this quickly and cheaply I've traded off some parts I don't need for a complete engine and transmission from a 1987 RR. I future I'd like to fit a diesel but something with more power than the 2.5na. My 110 has a 2.5na diesel and is a little lacking in power and prone to getting messed up on the really tight trails that the challenge will cover, hence the 90 project. I've had the frame and axles for several years and never gotten around to doing anything with them, time to get something done.

PS. the 110 should have a 6.2 GM diesel and NV4500 in it by this time next year. The NV4500 is sitting a few feet from me, the 6.2 is in the Suburban out front. Now if I can make all the parts fit together.

a mate of mine had a 300Tdi 90 with R380, he changed that to a ZF auto, with the engine in the stock position, and used the stock 300 driveshafts,

Sooo..... i'd ASSuME that you would have to swap to 300Tdi (or LT85 V8...they're the same) shafts to fit the auto combo.
