Okay, I thought the Jeep forum might be helpful, but apparently they are not..

I've got a dilemma, and that is the gear swap of a dana-18 into a 20 case, providing a centered rear output. Okay, here is my question:

Does the gear swap (33 tooth Bronco 20 rear slider) work with the dana-18 twin stick shifter configuration? I was told that it WONT work, but I cannot find and data to support the claim. I have mocked up the configuration and It all fits correctly. It looks goofy, because using the old 18 stub gear with the pass rear output makes for three output flanges (two rear and one front)

I guess I can run a old style jeep drum brake in this configuration (thanks scoutdude)

Otherwise, cep't for being long winded, is there something I'm missing here?

Okay, I see no reason why you couldnt modify the front shifter mounts from an 18 to work. I have no idea if they'll work as a bolt up. IF you have pics of your mockup I'll be happy to help as I can :)

Update:

I got in touch with Jack O'Brien yesterday, and he has cleared the swap up altogether. It turns out that the 'nutter' swap is a bunch of ((*&#&^*W(#$)

Cheers.

What do you mean the swap is a bunch of crap?

Why would you want to use the Dana 18 front output bearing retainer, anyways? The Dana 20 one works just fine, and if you want twin sticks, you can modify the D20 shift rails to accept the Dana 18 shifters, and the rest of the front output bearing retainer should be the same.

All this "it won't work" is going to motivate me to finish my 2.46 Bronco swap with twin-sticks.

I have all the pieces, just haven't ground the 'case to clear the gears, nor have I cut n' spliced my shift forks yet.

The crap element of my post was related directly to the WRONG part number for the critical swap component. The gears are close but not correct, that's all. The 'nutter' swap information is just plain old wrong, and IMHO crap.

I hope you enjoy your new re-geared transfer case as much as I do mine.

;)
