: How long do you wait?

I showed up for a trail run about 15 minutes late this morning, to find I had been left behind. I had never been to the place before, and only had direction to the meeting spot, not the trail itself. I usually wait at least 15 minutes, especially if I know it is someone's first time to go somewhere.

So how long do you wait??

I'll wait 1/2 hour to an hour and after that I'd try and leave a note of some sort.

with technology today...being late and not calling just doesn't work...I usually show up 30 mins early to make sure I'm their or have someone's cell number and give them a pre-alert if running late or brokedown...gotta call last night to rescue a friend on fish creek canyon hill...broke out the trailer and headout that way....friend battery and alternator!

I'm pretty new to the "semi-hardcore" wheeling around here and I don't know where anything is yet (though I'm learning). Not too long ago I met up with some guys in Florence Junction, I was there over 30 minutes early "just in case I had problems finding it". Then up on Table Mesa, about 40 minutes early. I don't like holding up guys showing me around so I try to make sure I'm the first one there (as I was on both of those runs). Better that I wait than me holding them up. Gives me more time to check over the rig, straps, etc. That said, I have had things go wrong and delay me (don't even ask about the fiasco in Moab last weekend! ) but, if I didn't call ahead (cell, CB, etc.) I would rather see them gone than know they had to wait on me... With no call, how do they know I didn’t change my mind or over sleep? If I’m late, it’s my problem, not theirs…

we never seem to go out to play on time....but... its for obvious reasons of work on a fellow 'benders rig. :)

i mostly go wheelin with buddies and we usually hook up in town, but when i'm going out with new guys or meeting somewhere near the trail or something i try to get there early for two reasons. 1 is so i wont make them wait and 2 is so i can meet everyone and get some pointers about the trail.
too bad you missed the run man, bummer, but with the heat i dont blame them for getting out on time and not waiting. however it would have been nice to leave a note or something so maybe you could have cought up to them, what trail was it BTW?

the poll is kinda tricky, you see one a nite run i'll wait forever, relax talk to the others no hurry, but in the morning-in the summer, i dont wanna wait too long.

we always set a meeting time, instead of a departure time and hang out and check shit out BS for about half hour or more if there is some kind of problem

OKCrawler here is the president of a local wheeling club, he does a great job of handling this.

Basically he says be there at X, you show up and for a half hour to an hour he discusses the terrain and what will be expected. Gives out responciblities and maybe raffles off some shirts and other misc goodies. Then they hit the trail.

If you show up late you either miss the info or the goodies but you probably will at least make the run.

RHINO, It was a run to Upper Woodpecker in Fl Junction.

Just want to say that I am not really pissed about the fact that they left. But I know that we only missed em by about 2 minutes, 'cause there were a couple of other guys that were near the entrance. These guys said that a few jeeps had "just" driven through about 2 minutes ago. I was flat-towing, so i started immediately hauling ass (40 mph while flat-towing) down the dirt road over state land. Then when we reached the hills, we pulled off to the side, and tried the CB, no luck. It looked like there were several washes and break offs from the main road, but we didn't have the first idea of where to go. And I have refused the cel-phone fad, at least for now.

So, that said. I don't really blame 'em for leaving, I thought i could get there a little quicker, and we were a few minutes late leaving. It is just frustrating when i know that i could have gone on a bad-ass wheeling trip if i had just gone 5 mph faster on the highway, if i didn't hit that one red light in Apache Junction, or if I had just left 2 minutes earlier.

I help run a lot of trail-rides for our club, we generally leave on time. I will typically set a meeting time (10:00AM) and a departure time (30 minutes later). This gives folks unfamiliar with the area time to get there, grab supplies, tank-up, if they are unfamiliar with the terrain we'll have a driver's meeting, answer questions, socialize, and all that other shiot. For old-bies (not newbies) they swoop in about 5 minutes before departure, are ready to roll and we genearlly roll on time or close to it unless we KNOW somebody is lagging.

So far it's worked pretty well.
