: Rock Rolling on BIG RUNS

Me and some others ran Fordyce a week before the Sierra TREK and as usual we had a great time and the obstacles were challenging. We just finished it running last night ( a couple weeks after Sierra TREK ) and I'M PISSED OFF.. Almost every obstacle was completly filled in with boulders to make it EASY for rigs to get through. I can understand that with that many rigs running through, rocks are going to be moved around, especially in areas where there is no bypass. But that wasn't the case here, there where several areas ( especially # 3 ) where there is a bypass and it was completlty filled up with small boulders. Basically making a ramp to get over other rocks.

IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT THROUGH AN OBSTACLE WITHOUT MAKING A F-ING BRIDGE TO GET THROUGH IT ( USE THE F-ING BYPASS )

or take the ramp out once you've passed. Some people might try it and can't make it without building a ramp. So build it, get out of the way and take it out!

On this one obstacle were talking like maybe 50 small boulders that were moved in. There is no way they could remove the rocks between each vehicle but, if they could put it back the way it was after the event was over, that would be OK I Guess....

On the weekend after the Rubicon Jeep Jamboree, the right side line going up Gatekeeper, was so well paved, that it was only lacking striping to be classified as a highway.

FWIW, I agree that Sierra Trek overgrooms the trails to my taste... that said, the folks that roll boulders *into* the trail, presumably to enhance the challenge, are equally at fault. The trail is what the trail is -- quit trying to sculpt it to your particular desires.

That bypass is an illegal trail spur.

Let me amend your statement --- if you can't make it through the trail, change your vehicle, not the trail.

I totally dug what the Red-Rock 4 Wheelers did to Pritchet...They TOTALLY removed the stacking rocks from both Rocker-Knocker and Rock-pile. A lot of people were saying that Moab (in General) had become too easy. Well I used to think Rocker-Knocer (with 35's and under 100" wb) was cake...Now it's a lot more of a challenge...Guy's I was running with wanted to stack rocks to help (they always remove them), but they/we couldn't find any!

I have to admit that's a great way to keep the paving to a minimum, but I can't fathom the amount of work that must have taken to remove ALL stacking rocks within 100yards of the obstacle!

The BEST way IMO is constantly reminding those that do stack, to remove the stack after THEY are through...Not after their buddy(ies) is/are through.

i think it sucks that they stack so many rocks, but everyone i know goes earlier in the year (memorial weekend is the best) to get in some good wheelin cause we know that happens every year to fordyce. there's nothing you can do about because that event is so big. want a solution, do it in 2wd. that will kick those rocks out of the way :D

I noticed something funny about a part of Cadillac Hill one day. I took a closer look and the trail was concrete! The space in between the rocks was filled in. I then found found a large pile of rebar off to the side!

The whole area inside the arrows is concrete reinforced with rebar!

build the rig, not the trail
