: New Warn 9.5ti winch-thoughts?

What do yall think about the new thermometric 9.5ti winch that warn is releasing? I think I am gonna get me one instead of the hs9500i. It's basically the same winch as the hs9500i, but it is sealed from the environment and has a thermometric sensor in the motor that sends the remote readings of the temperature inside the winch, so you know when to stop before damaging thee winch. It's only $80 more bucks at gowarn.com than the hs9500i. Living in washington, I think I'll hold out and get the 9500ti simply because of the sealed motor and housing.

for my tastes I think it looks like it should be on the front of an Avalanche:eek: I don't like it. I do like the light that warns you of over heating...like you said. But it just looks to plastic like.

I dont really like the way they look either. Not that it's that big a deal, but it looks to girly. It's all round and plastic like. I like the more rugged look of the traditional Warn winch

I think it looks pretty bad ass!!! At first glance I didn't like it, but after a few clicks of the mouse, it grew on me. Who gives a rats ass what the fuckin whinch looks like anyways cau se the looks arent gonna do a damm thing to get ya home. THe plastic is a little cheesy, but im sure it serves it's purpose to protect the $900 of a winch that it is. I just wonder how "sealed" it really is!

 ya, I would hate to have something that looked like it belonged on one of those crappy avalanche vehicles:flipoff2:

I would go for a sealed winch like 8274 or the 9500 ti any day

Has anyone actully taken apart ther winches to find out what up inside water and gears are bad ! I had to rebuild my brand new winch after 2 trips of deep river crossing's rusty as can be:mad:

I was pissed at the Design and I have the XD 9000I no problems since them. but major pita

It may look like plastic, but it is not. The case is all cast aluminum alloy. It is about time they sealed the drum up as the brake and gears will be much happier. Overall it is just a HS9500i with some overdue refinements. There is still a few things that I would like to see them do (like a ditching the current solenoids they use), but I doubt it will happen any time soon.

is it built off of the HS or XD platform? it seems to be XD since they they are not advertising the speed and need some diferentation in product lines.

Line speeds are listed identical to the HS9500i.

I still say you dont buy a winch based on looks. :flipoff2:

I do like the thought of it being sealed against weather. Now if they would only use better paint to keep it from rusting!

899$ is far from suggested retail price. Shit, thats cheaper than the hs9500 is from 75% of dealers. I thinks it's pretty rare for someone to pay suggested retail on a winch.

hehe yes but that is a brand new winch and i imagine availability is low right now so i would expect to pay more for it than for a winch that has been around forever.. in fact thats the first price ive seen on it and i did expect it to be more... so giving these sorta facts i would think thats a descent price on it..

now if i could get it for the same price or even less than the 8274 @$838 +$52 shipping i would buy it instead... i really need the lower profile winch for air flow reasons, but i can still wait two more months before i have to buy a winch...

so if anyone knows of a place or is a place drop me an email i have two months before i need it..

You cant touch the motor and tell when to stop??

but then you'd have to get out of the A/C to check it (DUH!);)

Wouldn't the temp sensor be pretty helpful if one was inclined to use plasma rope?

IIRC, the drum doesn't get hot unless you're powering out, that's when it's working against the brake...

With UMPHWE (whatever) cable, it's so light, you can free-spool it most of the time.. Wasn't this the consensus?

I like the idea of it being sealed, hopefully the rest of the line will follow... I don't like integrated solenoid packs.

But my next winch will be my last winch... 8274 of course!
