: Jason Paule's hood?

What is his hood on the buggy made out of. I'm thinking of trying to make one like it as I can not afford the cost of a glass one from Campbell. Also I don't like it being fiberglass as it is one shot, one kill. So I would like to have one made of metal, ie. welding "fenders" onto an existing hood. But how do you make it "seamless"? Any bondo:barf: I would think would crack with the littlest hit. So what? Anyone done it? Pics?

Thanks, Phil:usa:

just do a tight-joint, clean looking weld and leave it alone. or,
use some GM body-joint filler... kinda like caulking...

Fiberglass is pretty strong depending on how thick it is and it's easy to repair, the 1/4's on my scout are fiberglass and when i layed it on its side last year i only had a little crack and some scratchs to fix, instead of a large dent to fix. If you do them in steel before you use light weight body filler (Bondo) to smooth the seam use some Fberglass filler (Long and Strong, Kitty Hair) over a complete weld and you won't have any problems with it cracking.

saw it on hot rod TV
lead sticks, a torch and a little flat peice of wood to smooth it out.

Lead will crack and pull away from the steel easier that a good body plastic. And I don't mean BONDO brand. That stuff is JUNK. Go to your nearest paint supplier and tell them what you are using it for and they will then suggest the proper plastic filler. Personally I would just mig the seam and then if I needed any more filler use a good hard solder. Also know as brazing. Like used for A/C brass fittings. You will need a oxy/ace setup because it has a high melt point but is easy to work with.

Here's an interesting page with some soldering facts and info:

LEADING IS A LOST ART YOU HAVE ETCHING ACID SO THE LEAD STICKS. THE LEAD ,SADDLES TO MOVE IT AROUND SMOOTH ECT. AND MUTTINTALLOW(SHEEP FAT) SO THE LEAD DOESNT STICK TO THE PADDLES AND A LOT OF PRACTICE I HAVE DONE THIS A FEW TIMES JUST BECAUSE. AND AN OLD RODDER TOUGHT ME:)
