since there are a lot of axle vs. tire questions here i will relate a few axle shaft strength calculations for everyone's benefit. i actually had this in one installment but the site went into some loop when i tried to submit the thread, so here is part 1. YIELD STRENGTH OF AXLE SHAFTS:
26 spline axle shaft (based on minor spline diameter)
SAE alloy: 1040- 1647 lb/ft
1050- 2269 lb/ft
1541H- 2549 lb/ft
4340- 3264 lb/ft
300M- 3865 lb/ft*
*estimate based on tensile strength, yield strength was not available
for comparison: 19 spline dana 44 outer- stock 1040- 2569 lb/ft
4340- 4889 lb/ft
30 spline dana 44 inner/60 outer-1040- 2835 lb/ft
-4340- 5665 lb/ft
35 spline dana 60- 1040- 4557 lb/ft
4340- 9029 lb/ft
i am not sure if suzuki uses industry standard 1040 spec or 1050 like ford does.
