This only happens when working the clutch after shifting into reverse. the clutch will stick to the floor not letting the clutch disengage to shift out of reverse, after start up it will regain pressure right away, all other gears work just fine shifting in and out of, but reverse causes the clutch to lose pressure and stick to the floor keeping the transmission in reverse...... any ideas why this could be happening??

sounds kinda odd but i have a couple questions to try and help.
1. are you losing any clutch fluid and having to refill the master cylinder?
2. oh yeah, what year/model jeep we talking about?
3. original clutch? how many miles?

my 01 tj used to have a similar problems with the clutch but it would be when i was half clutching it like when parallel parking and such. it would take a second to pop back up.
Finally it stuck to the floor and i had to drive home 15 miles with out a clutch
for me it was CLUTCH master cylinder.

its got fluid, all forward gears work, no noticable leaks. 2001 wrangler 4.0liter not sure which tranny. clutch and T/O bearing replaced at 87k there are 114k miles on it now. it basically just started over night. if your trying to reverse into a parking spot or any reverse situation where you have to ease the clutch in and out after the your in reverse the clutch pedal will pull to the floor and leave the tranny locked in reverse, engine stalls, pull it into neutral and restart the engine all pressure is back. i'm completely lost

i am thinking the master cylinder perhaps based on your symptoms and the age of vehicle plus the clutch job previous. i believe you have the NV3550 tranny by the way.
i am also pretty sure the master and slave cylinders come as a "kit". they come filled and bench bled with the line connecting them attached. very easy install. i have done it on my NV3550 implant on my last 87YJ and on my current 94YJ. you have an external slave so no worries about dropping the tranny!

sounds like you didn't buy them as a complete pre-bled system:confused:
if you bought them separate then you also must have had to install the connecting line between them. also the slave must have a bleeder screw i would assume?
what did you buy?

i kept the old connecting line between them and they were from napa automotive. cannot find any bleeder screws on either the slave or the master. neither the new slave or master were pre filled

ok, you would have been better off finding the complete pre-bled master/slave/connecting line "KIT" but oh-well you don't.
you will have to somehow bleed the master/slave/line you have.
you can hold the slave and connecting line upright and pour fluid down the line till full, then connect the line to a full master. i have done this before successfully.
