If it is original it will be a 10 bolt. Or, go here: http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml

Looking at both pic's of the 44 and the10 bolt I still can't figure out what I have .....I don't know if the front axle is the orignal or not.......the rear axle has junk yard wrighting on it so the front could be anything:confused: Is there a differece between the too????

no there is no difference
the ring gear and carriers all swap between them and dodge 8 3/4 and ford 8.8 axles

we just give them different names to confuse newbies

WOW MJ you ARE l33t! :flipoff2: Do you have to use an extra heavy duty housing spreader to get that dodge in the f0rd? maybe some :rainbow: grease you got in your back pocket? :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

TOY 2, the D44 cover is more "stop sign" shaped and the 10 bolt is more round. Also, the 10 bolt has "ears" protruding from the lower left and right portions, you can clearly see that in the pics. The D44 will have the #'s "44" cast into the lower webbing of the diff on the driveshaft side (backside), clean off the grime and take a look..LOL maybe you will be lucky and see "60"! The D60 cover is kind of an enlarged D44 cover. John

OOPS! Me wrong, the "44" will be cast into the cover side of the diff on the drivers side, so lower right web looking at it from the front. John

The only thing I could find on the housing was "GM 6" on the back driverside.......So I'm thinking that I have a 10 bolt:confused: ......I noticed the little ears that you were talking about .......Those are on the 10 bolt that has the 8.5" ring gear...and I think that's what I have????

hot as in you can't touch it hot? or hot as in you can touch it but it's pretty damn warm? if it's too hto too touch you might want to back off your spindle nuts just a bit, but keep in mind when doing the heat test, disk brakes create a LOT of heat so that could be the source of a lot of it.

Would it be the bearings if they only get hot when the hubs are locked in:confused: ...........and what I mean by hot is ...I drive maybe a mile at 30 MPH .......get out and the hubs are so hot I can't leave my hand on them or it will brun me

Then I will let them cool down and do the same test with OUT the hubs locked in and thay are warm at the most..........I can drive down the freeway and check... and thay still arn't as hot as when I lock the hubs in at 30 MPH:confused: ............Would this be the bearings to tight or is there something wrong with the hubs:confused:
