A burned valve is quite.

Yeah, I'll replace the plug [in fact, all 8 of em!] when it's not dark outside anymore. Probly do a compression test too.

Thanks for the reassurance:flipoff2:

Yeah, some motors will continue to run. But there is no way that you would be asking this question if you DID throw a rod!

Yeah, I hope so.

I'll know in a few hours.

Ya, I saw my buddy throw a rod and piston right out the side of the block on his 22R. He just stayed on the gas, and the crank hammered it out of the way and he was able to drive it for a mile or so this way. Man was that an oily mess!

I tossed two rods out of a chev 4.3 (in a 2500 LD service truck. What a joke) and drove until it caught on fire, which was about 3 miles. Then, I put it out with the dry chem and drove for about another 2... It was a mess, but the motor was hooped anyways. There's NO way you'd be able to drive without knowing you tossed a rod... You'd feel it. At the worst you may've dropped a plug wire, crushed a lifter or lost a valve spring... But you'd never drop a rod.

I rebuilt the engine in an old Buick Electra 225 about 20 years ago that had a busted rod in it .. Guy brought it in because it had a miss.. The number 8 rod had broken about an inch up from the big end.. The piston was at the top of the cylinder ans the broken side on the crank hung down so they didn't make contact.. The only thing that gave it away was the miss, vibration and lackof compression in that cylinder..

I threw a rod on my 22R. It would start up and run, but didnt have enough power to move the truck on its own. Sounded like hell too...

used to drive an old, old international 1 ton truck on a ranch.
the motor was pulled for a rebuild, and the entire rod was in
the bottom of the pan. ranch owner knew the truck wasn't
running at full potential, but it had been like that for 20 years.
they actually only removed the pan out of curiousity. the motor
was in a combine for 15 years before that.

My brother drove his 96 heep back from CO to OK with a rod missing...it went out the side of the block along with the rod which broke at the big end.....his wife was driving it when it happened on a trail...she thought it was the rocks hitting the diffs that she heard......hole about 3" dia in side of block.....LOL...still looking for a block....that year has weird parts or something..:flipoff2:

Threw a rod on a POS 96 F150 with the 6 cylinder...engine ran but it ran hot at 50mph, and sounded like someone was hitting the block with a hammer the whole time. :D

I broke a rod in my injected small block on the street one night. Knew it had a miss but it still ran fine got home and noticed some oil on the shop floor. Crawled under to find the leak and found a hole inthe side of the pan.

last week my wife broke the crank in a landcruiser F motor, drove it for 3 miles to a safe spot to pull over, called me, called AAA. when tow truck came rig was pointed wrong direction for hookup.
I started the truck and turned it around. Ran fine, lots of bangin.

Ok, I feel really :rainbow:
It was just a plug wire burned through on the header tube. I don't know why I didn't notice that when I looked at it Saturday. I just put electrical tape around it and it fired up and ran smooth. I'll replace it as time allows.

I feel like such a NEWBIE

My buddy threw a rod in his 440. Ran with a miss and he couldn't figure it out. I climbed under to see the end of the rod sticking out the side of the block. I don't know why oil and water didn't go everywhere. I didn't look any further. Just told him to shut it off.:(

one time I threw a rod, and heard if hitting of this that and the other thing....then a loud CRASH...

then nothing.....
but then I started my motor it ran fine and had the same power as before...

oh yeah did I mention that the rod I threw was on the shop floor out of a different motor?
