: Results from spaced out springs

Ok,
Had a fun night with the drill press and such on Friday. Got the "pucks" from the aluminum yard, used the plate as a template and drill holes. I wanted to start with just one inch, as I didn't want to run into driveline issues. The rear is cake, but the front presented me with a problem. I didn't know that the front spring plate bolts are COARSE thread, and the rears are the only only ones that are fine thread...DOH!

For the front's I figured out how to relocate the shock mount upwards by having a second plate cut to mount the shock on, the mount to the spring plate, then to the puck. I had to leave them out as I only had bought fine thread hardware, and only had 2 "potmetal" bolts that would work on the front in my junk pile. So, I only put the 1" spacers in the rear. Now my truck looks like a stink bug with its arse in the air.

Now with heavy's and empty, there is like 4 - 5 inches between the top of the 32's and the beginning of the wheel well. Oh and more importantly the friggin springs don't come completely out of the cones anymore!

Here's the rub though and where I need your help: I now have a driveline vibration in the front, where I had NONE before at 65-70 mph! WTF? I would have thought that by raising the t-case slightly on rear side of the front shaft, it would make the angle less? Suggestions?

are you 100% sure that the vib's are coming from the front? they can sound like they're coming from all over the vehicle, but by raising the rear suspension it shouldn't make any difference at all to the front. try dropping the front driveshaft out, engaging difflock and seeing if the vib is still there.

BTW... the bolts that hold the spring plates are M14 metric.

Yeah,
It was from the front, used the passenger relocation method to determine that though. Can't do the diff lock thing, as I am viscous.

FOUND THE VIBRATION!

It was the front spring not being set. I have too much droop for the springs! I measured 17" between mounts when I ran out of jack under the frame.

Looks like it is definitely time for the spacers so that I don't loose the spring in the mounts. Unless someone has a GREAT idea for retainers in the front with stock mount shocks.

Hose clamps. Drill a few holes (like six..three sets of two) to run the clamps through and wrap wround top of spring. Had this on my vehicle a long time ago before making my own metal spring retainers.

Fawk the hose clamps...Just relocate the shock outside of the damn spring. What a fin' pain the ars that design is.

I just want to clarify that the only wood in my truck is the "starbucks only" cup holder.

sounds cool. the rovertym fronts that have the plate drilled to accept a stud mount shock in the front are a major PITA to get on, you have to start it with a longer bolt and then once its tight in the front and the back, take out the long bolt and put in the correct one. difficult to explain but thats the way that i had to do it (after several nights and many curses).

Read the first post. I figured out how to eliminate that problem.

Or were you just on a spree with your posting? (5-6 posts in less than five minutes? wow )
