1983 Nissan Patrol, imported to the USA from Germany in 1987. I bought it 5yrs ago in Bakersfield Cali for $1500....

Stock it was:

SD33 N/A inline-6 diesel
4spd
4.11 in diffs, LSD in rear
leaf springs

Then we dumped the leaf spring suspension and went to 12" Fox air shocks, 35" Creepies. Rebuilt t-case, diffs and rebuilt a Patrol 5spd which got installed. Diffs regeared to 4.65 and ARBs went in....stretched wheelbase from 93" to 106" plus a bunch of other crap.

It went alright like that but still wasn't exactly what I was after. So we fit a set of Portal-Tek G3s, Ballistic 16" coilovers, MasterCraft 3Gs, stretched wheelbase to 113", full hydro steering, 40" Creepies...bla blah blah.

Now it is more along the lines of what I am after! Still a work in progress....coming this year is NV4500, Atlas 4spd (purchased), new diesel that is turbo'ed & supercharged (half built), exo...blah blah blah.

the rangley colorado trip was large as most of our trips are.....wyoming crawlers are stong and should step up!!!! rangley should be an annual event..
we are going to hold the 1st annual rock crawling comp in superior wyoming over the 4th of july during there mudd boggs..

there is a welding and fab shop here in rock springs that does killer fab work on jeeps and other stuff. and does powder coating and has a big enough oven to do a whole chassie .. its called powderstorm technologies and the owners name is joey lye 307 382 7180 and yes he is a rock crawler.....

Any wyooming guys going over to the black hills over the holiday weekend? A pair of us are heading that way from Billings.

A couple guys from Sheridan and some of the Trailheaders from Gillette.

Where are you guys staying? We are staying at wild bills. What trails are you guys planning on running? We are planning on hitting suprise, some of hal johns and kong one day. Fruity pebbles and then hopefully find some more over there the next.

The Black Hills 4wheelers are hosting their annual event starting this thursday and running thru sunday. You may have some interferance with trying to run some trails and not being involved in the Dakota Territory Challenge. just an FYI

yeah we know about DTC. This is just the only long weekend we could go. I found a list of trails they said they aren't running, so we will see how it goes. Are you guys part of DTC? I think there are still spots left, at least the other day they had posted that there where, so I wonder how many are showing up for it.

Yes we are participating in the DTC, and yes there are spots left. The event has seen fewer participants as the years have gone on but it is still a good time and they give away pretty good door prizes and the bonfire friday night.

We have thought about doing DTC, just things seem to keep coming up. This trip has only been in the works a couple weeks. We figured the trails would be busier but, I couldn't make it over July 4th which is the trip we planned. We know a handful of the trails so we aren't to worried thou. Weather says its going to nice. Over the 4th the got rained on pretty good. So we are hoping so.

Although, I don't really know how far away I am from being ready. I still have a few things to do. Really it's all about how fast I get the money and how many snags I run into in the process:

Seal major transfer case leak
Rear brake lines
Shock towers all around
Shocks all around
front and rear driveshafts

I really couldn't tell you. I'm planning on joining a club or two when I get this thing rolling but until then I doubt I'll see any trails anytime soon. None of my buddies are into wheeling (yet :D). I've flown all over Wyoming since I fly about 2-3 times a week. I've seen some damn good looking areas but haven't researched them to find out about the land. At the very least I won't have to travel very far from snow. :smokin: Never really got to play in it and when I did the Detroits weren't too helpful. Spools shouldn't be much better.

I'm a C-130 Loadmaster. This is my first duty station, I'm at the Guard base in an Active Duty squadron.

So have any of the Sheridan guys went up towards cloud peak lake or elk lake? Or is it even legal to take full size rigs in there. I know cloud peak is getting close to wilderness or may be in it, I'm not sure. Just thinking about maybe a camping trip next summer. thanks

I would like to get together sometime with some of you guys. My Patrol is kind of on a back burner right now as I try to get the new motor in it.

But I have a new truck which is an 84 FJ60 Cruiser with a ramjet, 35s, ARBs and such. It is great for light to mild stuff but I don't want to take it into the rocks.

I may have found a pretty hardcore rock crawling trail here in my area...
