I got an idea for a project- tozuki turbo veggie diesel with propane fumigation. Ive seen a few 22r swaps in the samurai but none of them were very clear on whether or not the toyota transmission and tcase will fit in there or if it would be too long. Here is where I am getting my ideas from:

http://vpizza.org/~jmeehan/toyotadiesel/ (diesel engine swap for yota)
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=82466 (veggie diesel guide)
http://www.mrsharkey.com/lpg.htm (propane fumigation guide)

I havent really messed with the Samurai much, but since the 22r fits with a 2" body lift (according to this guy)http://www.zukikrawlers.com/showthread.php?t=28 (samurai 22r swap)

and the 2L-T bolts right into the toyota 4runner and pickup according to the diesel swap faq, the engine should fit.

Anyone do a complete drivetrain swap with the Toyota drivetrain, any insight or knowledge?

There's quite a few rigs out there with complete toyota drivetrains. As long as you have tools to cut & weld with, you'll be fine.

the whole thing fits with use of a shoe horn! tight tight tight! like i like my women! any how there is one running around here that has the auto trans a 22re and the sami case. his jack shaft is all of one U-joint! but he did use an electric pusher fan too.......

I've got the complete toyota pickup drivetrain and even a toy pickup radiator in mine. There is barely enough room. I had to use an electric pusher fan due to lack of space. I kept the engine and tranny as far forward as possible to minimize driveline problems and tranny tunnel interference. My rear axle is in the stock location but my front is forward about 4 inches. I don't know if it makes a difference in length but I used a 5 speed toyota trans.
