I've got an 02 Carson 16ft. flatbed dual axle hauler (same as their car hauler without the dovetail). They come with 205/75/15's and I would like to put 225's on it if they will fit. Has anyone done this? Pretty hard to check clearance with the walking beam tandom set up so it would be nice to know if anyone is running bigger tires. The rig I usually tow weighs about 4500lbs so it's pretty close to max when loaded...Thanks...

I'm not sure on your setup but I have had several trailers I've jumped from a 215/75/15 to a 235/75/15 with no problem. The 215 translates to a 27.6x8.5x15 and the 235 is a 28.8x9.25x15. I am getting ready to change to a 235/85/16 from a 215/75/15 on my current trailer.

My Big Tex 16' has 225/75/15's on it -- the other ones I have seen had 205's on it. My tires 'barely' fit -- I've over loaded it enough to have the fenders rub the tires. Doesn't help that the fenders were smashed down a bit from being run over/hit by stuff.

an '02 is probably about ready for new paint, so you could just cut the fender welds and raise them up. Thats what I did on my '00, but I bought the "squared off" style of steel diamond plate fenders to put back on since the originals were trashed.

Don't have a problem with the handling....for a cheap trailer, the Carson tows real nice. I've done three trips to Moab with it and you almost don't know it is back there, be it at 55 or 75. Just not real fond of the Carlise bias tires that came on it. Have blown up two and got a sidewall issue with a third. My original spare and the tire that replaced the first blown up one have done fine. Not sure if it is the luck of the draw, or if the stock Carlise's are just crappy tires. The trailer has been maintained so no, it doesn't need pait (though it looks like it will need a new deck in the next year or so due to the shit lumber Carson uses)....thanks for the input....
