Spent the last two days putting this together for my brother's Bronco- He calls it the one ton pumkun'. Tell me what you think- He needed a family cage- that's why we didn't cross brace the center hoop better- the kids need to be able to get in between the seats. We still have alot to do to tie it into the frame. TIA

Love the way it looks except for the down bars on the main hoop.
Nice work!!

what did you do about the windshield-wiper motor assy--??
my brotherinlaw wants a cage for his EB, but we still haven't
decided what to do about that damn little wiper motor.

nice cage BTW.

Sherpa- The windsheild wiper motor just clears the cage. I'm not sure but I think he had somehow flipped it over using the stock bracket.

the soft top places make a wiper motor drop bracket thingy like best top or specialty tops maybe that would help im sure it would be easy to fab.. i havent paid them much attention but there pretty common....

What size of tube are you using? 2" .120?

I'm no NASCAR engineer or anything, but it seems like it could use some more triangulation.
I think instead of the two bars on the main hoop, just one going from ont corner to the other and then maybe add a cross piece to each side to help support the rear section.
I'm in the middle of designing mine and am having a hard time coming up with an original idea.
I think I'm going to do dual halo's, but it's tough to say.
Nice work! DOM? What bender did you use? Also, what size/thickness tube did you use?

helocat - yes it is mostly 2" x .120 HREW The windsheild brace is 1.5" x .120 and the tube gussets are 1" x.120.
Ironbender- You're right about the triangulation ,but as stated before we had to make it usable when he brought the kids on a trail ride- the compromise that we came up with was the two down bars. At first we did'nt like it, but his father in law (who was a physicians asst or something) talked us into keeping them there and putting a padded anti-whiplash thingamajiggy on the down bars. His reasoning was that the most common injuries are caused by the head going back too far.- My brother is 6'6" and they just don't make bucket seats with head rests that are functional for guys this big!!

You and I are in the same exact boat. I've got little nose pickers to put in the back as well. That's why I'm putting that much more in. Just to be safe. I think one bar @ a 45 degree angle would be easier for them to climb around than the two anyway. Also, the two on the sides would keep that rear hoop from colapsing. I'll send pics when I'm done!

I had the same problem with the diagonal. I did similar to what you did but tied the bottom together to form a "V". Fully triangulated and they can still step through easily plus it gives a place for a head rest...
