I bought a fj55 a while back and then put it in storage, while I saved up money to fix the clutch. It has a large dent on the roof. I can push up on it from the inside and get it to pop out, but after a while it just ends up popping back in. Does anyone know how the pros would fix someting like this? The whole roof doesn't have to be cut and replaced does it? Also, some @ss didn't like the look of the land cruiser I guess, and broke my windshield with a rock while it was in storage. The iron pig mailing list gave me a couple of leads, but does anyone here in northern california have a good windshield for a 1970 fj55. Just trying to get it dressed up before my wife finally sees. I figure the better it looks, the less time I'll spend sleeping on the couch. ;)

I'm not sure what the body shop does. It sounds like the dent has "memory" or something. I'm sure they wouldn't have to replace it. I think they have to relieve the stress around the edges of the dent.
Isn't the pig windshield flat glass? I replaced my own on my 40. Had the glass shop cut it to match the old one. Cost about $60. Wasn't teribbly difficult to do but I did end up having to replace the rubber as it was 30 years old and wouldn't seal.

You might be able to permanently brace it with some metal cross sections. Also it might stay up there on its own if you temporarily braced it with a 2x4 for a while, and it got its shape back.

Wow, the classroom discussion board at autobodystore.com helped me out on the roof dent removal. Those guys are very knowledgeable. I recomend that site to anyone who has any body work questions. Yoda, the windshield on the fj55 is curved unfortunately so no custom cutting can be done. I did find someone around your area who is selling one, so I might drive up there since I have family in Issaquah. I also have to pick up a tranny I got for $20 in Oregon along the way! Didn't really need one but couldn't pass up that price. Who knows whem mine might go out?
