Hey guys,

maybe this is the wrong forum, but I'm looking for different ideas for GM alternators running in the 170-200 amp range.

I have checked out these two sites, and am looking for others.

I'll post this on chevy tech too.

I'll post on GM tech too.

small case/high amp alts have been known to go :nuke: The case is just to small for a good size field coil and the high output is usually at elevated rpms. I have a Freightliner one wire alt on my Scout. It's 180amps and I get full output at 1300 engine RPMs. It's made by Prestolight.

i wouldnt think so because...

A) its from a freightliner :D

and

B) he was saying how small case alts dont last long in a high output situation, so im guessing that this alt has a fairly large case :flipoff2:

good luck and let us know what you find out (although i wouldnt want to copy it and risk infringing on your intellectual property :D :flipoff2:)

woah,

that thing looks pretty burly.

I'm about ready to post some pics of my alternator bracket and dual-compressor setup.

Maybe you could just look at them when they're up (soon) and tell me if you think it'd fit.

I don't think it will, but it looks like a sweet alternator anyway!

I'll hurry...

It goes both ways! :rainbow:

hehe It has both AC and DC outputs. The semi trucks use AC to run the ECU and other goodies!

AC *and* DC???

Hmmmmm, maybe I do actually want one of those things!

Now you've got me thinking dammit! :flipoff2:

You can see the A/C out here:

how many watts of A/C will it squirt out?

I am planning on running a 1000 watt inverter in the crewcab, but this may negate that....

Here's the pic of my alternator setup.
