hmmm, this guy over in the BB is treading on the sensitive feelers over there.......

:crybaby:

hmm, love how the "newbies" over there are so quick to jump on the people that say *sensitive* things , and try to tell you "how things are done here"

never mind the fact that Robert, like myself and Tom, have been over there since almost the begining :D.....

The crap over there is getting worse. The one guy wanted to know how to fix his tie rod on a SUA and five or six guys are telling him how to do high steer on a SOA! Hopper your one of them!

That poor ugly ass Scout... That's just wrong.

It always amazes me the money some people spend to make their trucks look uglier.

A waste of time and money. Even the guys at the mall probably laugh at it. Jerk:flipoff2:

Can't find the post your refering too. But damn - that is one pretty speed bump. Why would someone spend good money making their junk look like that?

Hope everyone had a good, productive weekend.

OK, I didn't bother to look at the pictures earlier..... yep, that thing is pretty bad.

lots of work and time, and I applaud that, I admire any thing that an owner does themselves, but DEFINITELY some choices I wouldn't make.

Never mind the "rational" that their areas don't have rocks and such, or that he needed the "steps" for his wife. He negated some of the aspects of the truck, lift it then put stuff down low.

Sand, Snow, Roots, Logs, what ever, I suspect those things will go soon. There are other ways to make steps.

More power to him for building what he wants, and I don't fault Robert for saying what he said (I'm sure 99% of the people that looked at the truck on the board said the same thing, to themselves).

Its just interesting to see how the mentality of the board has changed over the years..... Politeness is one thing.... but sometimes people push it too far.....

ok, just senseless babbling (or is it a "pad" post?!?!, do I need any of those?)

here's the thread for those that can't find it  (http://atlas.binderbulletin.org/cgi-bin/webbbs/techtalk.cgi?read=226315)

after looking at all the pictures and reading the post. I think the truck is nice for him. He has put a lot of work in it and if it does what he wants - great for him. I would have done it different as would anyone - how often do we copy another rig.

I like the top on it and the SSII door openings. It is pretty nice for it's purpose.

I like the top... I think that is a great idea, but I believe we already covered that in a post a while back I think John Fleck had some pictures of a top he did that to for a customer.

As for the rest of it... Blech. The guy is obviously talented, and knows what he is doing, because he did it well... but I still think it's friggin ugly.

And yes... for that kind of wheeling, you may not need the lift, or the rock sliders tucked up into the body... but at that point, ditch the body lift, put 31's on it and don't make the poor rig into a poser.

oops, I deleted the post, anyways I,m sticken to my guns, its a pavement pounder, I agree, the guy does nice work, just not our style on this page!!, I no one thing about this forum ,don't post here unluss you like the punishment:p I know I haven't had any slack here, and I like it!!!! it makes you soft and swelll headed if you don't get judged, sometimes a couple of low blows get you back to reality, thats all:flipoff2:

I didn't read the original post so I can't say for sure but I think I get the idea.
I think we need to take into concideration that the BB isn't all about wheeling. Heck, there's guys over there talking about refrigerators and crap like that. I try to just ignore most of the babling and get a wee bit of usefull info out of it and leave it at that. We have this board for the wheeling end of things and guys here understand that they need to have a thick skin cuz everyone shares thier opinion. (even though MINE is the only one that matters:flipoff2: ).
OK, I'm done.

Well said Scoutaholic.

The last thing I want to see is this thread encouraging people to go over to the BB and make posts bashing someone, purely for entertainment's sake. We're all Scout lovers... and I'm sure that guy thinks my rusted and dented hunk of sheet is just as ugly as I think his mall crawler is. But we're still on the same side of the fence and not driving some POS Ford Excretion.

The BB is a valuable resource to the IH community, and we have this forum for serious wheeling questions, and for bashing each other. :flipoff2: That's what makes both places great.

That being said... I do think people overreacted a little to Old Scout, but what the hell, it's their panties in a bunch, not ours.:D

Found the thread. Here is his post

The original had offset in middle of bar, but I dont't see why I cannot use a straight one.

Here is my post...

I run SOA with a SS tie rod from back country binders. I have lifted my front end on rocks, using the tie rod, and it has not bent.

But, you need the offset or you can run your tie rod into your oil pan. Even with my SOA, I have a dent in my pan, and the only way I can figure to have gotten it is for my tie rod to have hit it at some point. It got dented my last wheeling trip...

With 4" lift springs, it will be harder for you to stuff your tires, so you might have enough clearance for the straight tie rod, but my SOA that netted a lot more than 4" of lift, evidently does not have quite enough clearance.

He asked if he needed the offset in the tie rod. I essentially told him that even with a SOA, my straight tie rod is hitting my oil pan. With SUA and only 4" lift springs, there is a serious possibility of his tie rod hitting his oil pan.

Now, where did I talk about high steering.....?

Ya big lummox. Malign me will you.....:D

Ohh yea an SOA and a SUA flex at the same rate! There simple minds over there don't confuse them with this talk of SOA and flex.

LOL. Ooops. Sorry. Forgot.

I thought about getting into the lift springs won't flex as well so it might not be an issue, yada, yada, yada, but thought that would open the whole lift springs vs soa vs 44044 vs stock springs argument, and didn't feel like rehashing all of that.

So, I kept it simple. 4" lift springs don't give as much llift as SOA, and SOA *can* hit the oil pan with the tie rod.

But, that poses a question. With high steer, your tie rod is that much higher, that much more likely to hit the pan. Why aren't folks tagging the pan with the tie rod more often. Dan hit his on the slow obstacle course at roundup. He is full width IH axles, high steer, and he went over a log, then down the other side, axle square to the log. When he came down, his tie rod tagged his oil pan. Pan dented, tie rod bent....

Lower bump stops would help, but then you sacrifice articulation.

Or maybe you guys just don't flex well enough to have this problem.....? :D

You hit the head on the nail, Pat.

They either 1) don't wheel it, 2) have too long of shocks and they're bottoming the shocks or 3) bump stops are too tall.

RustoleumWhite
09-05-2002, 12:48 PM
well, my axle's 2+" forward... so I probably don't count... but I don't hit my oil pan.....

the high-steer drag-link used come right across the strait-steer.... till I built the new cross member....

but it clears the oil pan quite well.......

Well when my rig is at FULL DROOP:rolleyes: or full compression:eek: ....

I have no clearance problems. Course it is SUA with standard steering adjustment.
