I`m about to pick up this ak from a friend for $350. It comes with 5 mags, bipod, and cleaning kit. Thanks

That's not an AK, it's an SKS.

I am no expert by any means but i was just pricing out a chinese sks to buy off of my BIL. Those AK's were very common so just the weapon $200-$250 depending on condition. I would personally say $300 tops for everything included.

He was telling me it was an ak but what research I`ve done so for it does look like its a SKS.

correct me if i am wrong, but aren't SKs's AK's? Maybe i just ASSumed it because they are both chambered the same.

About the only thing an AK has in common with an SKS is the cartridge and country of origin.

They are not the same as AKs. They're not even close.

No, they're entirely different designs

Sure. Just like all black 9mm pistols are "glocks" if you're talking to an ignorant enough person.

(Yes... I have met two people who referred to a sigma and an XD as "their glock"...)

Well, in all honesty, the Sigma is pretty much a glock.

the history behind the SKS and AK47 is long, but to put it short...

The russians called out their gun inventors to create a reliable weapon. The AK47 and the SKS were developed around the same time with the same technology. Thus they are similar, yet different.

S&W copied the Glock, but managed to make it worse in nearly every aspect. A remarkable acheivement - you'd think they would have at least improved something. Besides the price, I mean.

The grip angle is better. :p

The only reason those things are cheap is because nobody would buy that lump of shit otherwise.

Yes, I've shot a couple of them. I have to say that Smith & Wesson should have stuck with what they are good at: building wheel guns and charging ridiculous prices for them.

Does the sks take ak mags? It could be an sks-d (or m, can't remember), good deal for $350.

no they don't take AK mags.

One variant of the SKS does accept AK mags, but those are generally more rare.

If you change out the stock with an aftermarket one you can get larger mags right? Something like a tapco or ATI.

I just recently missed out on an SKS for $125... so no - I wouldn't pay $350 for one right now.

The more research I do the more I believe its not such a good deal.

The stock has nothing to do with it. If you remove the fixed mag, you can use aftermarket, detachable, high-capacity magazines.

They all suck, so it's a huge waste of time, but yes, it can be done, and it does not matter what stock you put on it.

And if you put an ATI stock on it, I will laugh at you, as will most others. The gangbangers will think you're king shit though....

Given today's prices, it's high, but not out of the ball park. If it's a typical Yugo, I wouldn't pay more than 200 for it. If it's a nice German or Pre-ban Norinco loaded with accessories, the price might be a bit more reasonable.

Course I paid 100 for my Yugo 3 years ago, and got my post-94 Norinco for free.

Look for SKS-D or SKS-M...

Look for SKS-D or SKS-M...

That would be worth the $350 as it takes AK mags w/o anywork. One has a 20" barrel the other 16" like an AK.

The one in the web site in the OP is not one as it has the 10 round "permanent" mag.
