Guys! I think a late-season pig run is a great idea. It might be a race between the announcement and the weather, assuming we do it in the sierras. But I'm up for it. I was thinking my last sierras run might be the Rubicon clean-up. Maybe we make it a rubicon clean-up with a pig emphasis? Or run another trail?

Yeah, me and the Missus did a 10-day mountain biking road trip. Kids stayed with their Grandma. We hit Moab, Durango and Tahoe for the hat trick of single track. So sweet! Got back Sunday, hung out with the kids Monday, now I'm back at work trying to figure out what it is I used to do.

How about somewhere besides the Rubicon?

I still have the list of guys from the last run at home.

Who's interested in a September or October pig run?

Don, it's good to hear from you! Did you ever get your water jug? Your 55 looks great now.

Thanks KrustyKruiser for the reminder to go read this board. :)

what trails did you ride in Moab? that place rocks! ;) NPI

yea, the water jug made its year long journey back to me:D

If I recall, we had the 55run last year, the week after the clean up. I am TOTALLY down for another rubicon 55 run but am not set on it ya know. What did you have in mind? something a little more mellow for the stockers? I know our group last year had its share of "carnage".

Moab was rushed. We went to two weddings our first day of vacation, then we were supposed to leave at 6AM the next morning but we were too beat, then we finally got on the road at 6PM and made a very poor decision to drive the 940 miles all night. Got to Moab at 9:30AM and I was mean as a snake. No riding that day, did Green River Overlook the next day and Lauren got heat exhaustion! Spent the night at the hospital putting 3L of saline+minerals back in her. Moab was kind of a wash this year.

Durango was epic. We did just two days at Horse Gulch, but they were two epic days. Then at Tahoe we did the Flume - Twin Lakes - Lake Marlett loop, with the top of the ride at 8680 feet. All good. Wish we had more time. Next time it's two weeks in Durango.

If I recall, we had the 55run last year, the week after the clean up. I am TOTALLY down for another rubicon 55 run but am not set on it ya know. What did you have in mind? something a little more mellow for the stockers? I know our group last year had its share of "carnage".

October 20-21, 2001! That's late, but it worked out fine. I am actually pretty ignorant about other Sierra trails. I've done Rubicon and the first part of Fordyce - that's it! So I'd like to try something else and yeah, I'd like to see less traumatized stockers. :)

One question not subject related... how many weeks of vacation do you guys have a year?

fc187
09-04-2002, 12:00 PM
moab on a bike at this time of the year is SATANIC! I rode it before at the begining of summer and it was fricken HOT!. we did porchipine rim and ofcorse, slick rock bike trail.

On porchipine rim you shuttle up about 2000 feet on a fire road then climb another thousand on a double track. there is an epic view on the rim overlooking a canyon. Then you decend a black diomond ST like a mad man 3000 feet back to green river at negro bill canyon. we sucked all our water down on the climb and allmost didnt get out of there either. Slick rock is like a park. follow the dotted lines. Constant up and down, up and down. But it is cool. Its amazing how muck traction you get.
You seemed to have an awsome tour! how the hell did you recover between rides? I came back from moab exhausted, dehidrated and with no skin on my elbows and knees. (had a rivalry going/rode hard as fuck)

ther is allot of easier trails up highway 4-88-120-108 that have camping areas. I went on Georg's 45 run this weekend and when all the 45 guys did slick rock, we did deer valley. Its easy but still intresting with awsome views. It winds down from highway 4 to a camp in an open medow with a rocken stream running through it. Large camping area. The trail connects hwy 88 and hwy 4. the camp sight is directly in the middle. From the 88 side into camp is really mellow. from the hwy4 side in , is a little more rocky. so, that may be the ticket for bone stockers too?

whatcha think?

I hate it when a European asks me that. :)

"Not enough." :) I get two weeks of vacation plus maybe six or seven paid holidays plus two "floating holidays".

Not enough.

Don, let's do the 55 run through Deer Valley! My friends have done it, but I've always missed the trip. Looks beautiful in there, and the wheeling is mellow enough for a stocker. Sounds perfect.

I think just about any weekend works for me. The Clean-Up is October 19-20. If we start promoting the 55 run, we want to give people with trannies on the floor and V8 swaps half-done at least a fighting chance at getting ready in time. How about 10/5 - 10/6?

Last year we had 14 FJ55s on the run, 13 for the photo op. Think we could do better?

Don, the 88 side of that trail is perfect for the bone stockers. From where I left you guys at the water crossing it's a really mild trail. Hell, I could probably drive my wife's Exploder in there.

After looking at the map that water crossing is more like the halfway point, I know you guys weren't into a 4 hour adventure, especially with dinner and a raffle waiting back at camp.....Sorry about that, simply living up to my rep..."Wrongway Reddog" :D

Make it so number one! (trekie shit):D

I think allot of 55's backed out last year when we decided on the rubicon. But I was really impressed with the guys with stockers that where down with going through with it. Hats off to those cats!. Smashed rockers and twisted DL's! :D Awsome!

I was giving Georg crap this weekend about us having more 55's show up last year than his 45's but at the last minute, Pardi showed up to make it a tie.

The date sounds cooool! shal I start a thread?

Go for it.
Move ahead.
Try to detach it.
It's not too late.
To whip it!
Whip it good.

I'll make sure fj55@tlca.org and landcruisers@tlca.org know about it, as well as the local hooligans. You know my buddy James has Jeff Fretwell's old 55, and he's still "working on it". It was supposed to be ready in time for last year's pig run. We might be able to beat 14.

Its all good Don , I wasnt bent or nothing. I just didnt want to miss out on the raffle and stuff. We did spend allot of time at each of the "tough spots" bull shitting. Thats where all the time went. From the water crossing we got back out in less than an hour. Turns out the 45 guys where even later. so,...ya gonna crash this 55 run or what? :D  :smokin:

Seems like I'll have to show, too close to home to miss this one.

BTW I heard you got laid ? errr, I mean laid off ?

If you want some extra money, I'll pay you going rate , cash money for a few days of helping me work on my house. I've still got a couple of rooms to rock, texture and paint. I've also got some more siding to put up before the weather goes bad. Before you know it, winters going to be here. Call me if you are interested.

we took deer valley home from the 45 run...don't think a stocker 55 would make it through the lower section (hwy 4) side without at least a little carnage. but after that it is a piece of pie.

Do you think having it October 12/13 - the weekend before the Rubicon clean-up - would cause too much of a conflict? I would certainly catch flak at home if I told my wife I was gonna be gone two weekends in a row four-wheeling. :(

September 28/29 is just too soon, I think. Gotta give people more notice.

Sounds like October 12/13 is the date. What do you all think?

Don needs to be there.

As far as where this thing happens, well, let's make it a hands-across-america thing. West Coaster pigs in the Sierras, Texas pigs in the middle, East Coast pigs in Paragon. We all meet up on the same weekend and do some wheeling and take some pics. We can compete to see who gets the most pigs in one place at one time. Eh?

sorry to fuck every thing up with the dates.:emb4: If those dates will work with you thats cool. I wouldnt want you to catch shit for it either. I know where you are coming from, after all that is one of the many reasons I have an X-wife. Your wife wouldnt want to come allong? We had a ton of families at the 45 thing.

If you are sure 12/13 is cool with you, (you need to be there too)lets do it!

My wife has made it clear she's done with wheeling for the year. There's a chance she'd come, if other wives and kids show, but she's been pretty clear. I really blew it this year on Rubithon, scaring my 5-year-old pretty bad and arriving at camp the first night near 3AM. Not good family wheeling.

There's a chance it'd be me, my 5-year-old and "Uncle Chris", my brother-in-law. Definitely want my son to come.
