I just put a new Ox-Locker in my HPD30.
The gears are set correctly and the same axles were used. The problem is:
when in 4wd,
on the street,
with OX unlocked,
when making a u-turn to either side,
the front wheels are chirping as if the locker were engaged.
Is that normal?
It does not behave as if locked during normal turns.
There are no problems in 2wd.
I have removed the cable from the shifter, which should absolutely leave no possibility of accidental engagement due to bad adjustment.
The reason I'm running it in 4wd on the pavement is to break-in the new gears.

I wouldn't run in 4wd on the street. The chirping tires is probably your transfer case binding up. Just beak that thing in in the dirt. Other than that it sounds normal to me.

My old unlocked hpd30 would bind up in 4wd on the street too.(hard to turn, stop the vehicle if no power was going to the wheels) Now with the lockright, I can not turn on the street at ALL. If you don't have hydro ram assist then you would not be turning on the street at all if the OX was still engaged. Try this... engaged the OX and see if you can tell a difference.

First of all, 4wd on pavement is a no-no, no matter what.
Secondly, you don't need to be in 4wd to break in gears. The whole process is based around not letting your diff fluid get too hot for the first 500 miles. The friction in the diff is the same whether you're spinning the drive shaft on purpose or not. If you have lock out hubs, lock em; otherwise, drive in 2H.

100% agree! In the D30 you gears are still going to be turning in 4wd or 2wd even with the vacuum disco.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear that there is no problem.
It occured to me that I've never spent much of any time in 4wd on the hardball, so maybe this was normal.
Thanks to you all for helping clear that up.
