: What arc welding stick to use for welding spider gears

I am getting ready to weld up my spider gears. what stick should i use with the arc welder???

7018 just use a hold can of brake cleaner to clean it out.

What do you have available? Almost anything will work. 6011 or 6013 will weld through almost anything. Rust, oil, pizza. 7014 is great, cause it is so easy to use. 7018 is "the king" of welding rod. If you think about it, all your doing is screwing up some nice shiney gears so they won't turn.

I welded up my son's spiders three years ago (not the whole lb of rod like you see posted) and he has beat it bad and they still look like the day I welded them. I used 7018 for his.

just remember to weld the side gears to the carrier and not the ring gear to the pinion while out of the case:D

3/32 or 1/8" 7018 lincoln excaliber for everything on the rig exept tubing. my .02!:D

x2... 7018 likes very clean material. . I used 7018 on my 14bolt, but it had been through the dishwasher first.:D

I would 7010 or 6010 if it was just cleaned brake cleaner.

i will use 7018. i cleaned the carrier peices in the parts washer, then brake cleaned it spic and span clean. thanks guys!!!
