: BC self inspections of "heavy" trucks?

Hello again.

If I'm not mistaken, in some areas of the States you can do a "self inspection" of your "modified" (in this case lifted) truck if it's GVWR is over 10,001.

Is it the same in Canada, BC to be more specific. I tried BC DOT but haven't found anything pertaining exactly to this. If anyone knows, or has done their own self inspection please let me know.

BTW, this would be for an 85 1 ton Crew Cab.

Thanks in advance

The self inspection is performed daily by the truck driver, Inspection for fit for service after a modification would have to be done by a mechanic I imagine if not there would be some interesting junk running the roads.

thanks John, I'm shying away from the self inspection, sounds like a pain just to avoid a gov inspection, I'll have to take my chances, just wait till I get puller over and get sent for one. I see some pretty big mud trucks running around here. This truck will have bigger tires than most, but about 5"-10" lower. Everyone around here gets pulled over for the tires sticking out too far.

In BC there are no self inspections for a 1ton. Not for vehicle mods like a suspension lifts anyway.

BC law requires any vehicle lifted over 10cm (a little less than 4") to pass a vehicle inspection at an approved testing facility.

In Indiana we dont have mandatory state inspections unless its a company vehical or over so many lbs. You can perform your own inspections if yu the owner of the vehical even if its a tractor trailer. If you get caught out of spec expect to pay some fines a tow and a mandatory repair and inspection from a repuitable shop.

I don't know anyone that brings their trucks in for an inspection until they have to...

bc law states any veichle used for comercial purposes needs a yearly mvi if it's gvw is under 5500kg. 6 months if it's over. certain veichle types are allowed 1 year intervals such as highway trailers, drill rigs...
once you lift a veichle over 4 inches it needs a saftey inspection, as well as an engineering report *body shop inspection i believe*
if you made an almagated veichle *2 trucks into one* you need documentation for both donors, do the inspection, take pics, send away for a BC assigned vin...

anything over 7400kg needs to be running a log book, and therefor needs a daily walk around inspection, stopping at scales, brake checks etc.

Yup wait till ya get pulled over and play dumb. Works well for a lot of people.

And if its insurance your concerned about, I just told them my Dodge 3/4 ton was rated for 5100kg and she bumped the GVW up @ the insurance place. No need for inspection. Im sure if I got pulled over though I would need to get one done just cause of that. But im in no ways a race car.
