: Eaton axles

I just took apart the eaton I aquired for my cj. I read in other threads that its axles are stronger than 60's and even 14 bolts. I measured the spline diameter @ 1.67", but it necks down to 1.37" right after the splines. Do all eaton axles 'neck down' like this, or is this an aberation?

Also, the whole housing is nodular iron. Is there anything special that I should take into consideration before welding new spring perches and AA mfg. disk brake brackets to it?

I'll check my shafts when I get home.

Can't help you on the welding - my buddy just uses his stick welder on it.

i have run one of these several times , the housing is easy weldable except on the center chunck itself. most axles i have seen neck down behind the splines. the center is a little of a ground clearance issue but i have always run 39 inch or larger tires, seem to work well.
