now these are some crazy rules..... :D this could get interesting!

.Big Dog
Best-of-the-Best Competition Rules

The concept of the competition is to maintain unaided forward progress without backing up to re-position your vehicle. Multiple attempts on an obstacle are encouraged, with winching as being a last resort. In addition, long winch pulls over multiple obstacles will be heavily penalized.

Unintentional sliding backwards off an obstacle while still in a forward gear is considered still attempting forward progress. A second unintentional sliding backwards off the same obstacle will start the clock for a potential 5-second delay of forward progress condition. Drifting backwards off an obstacle by pushing in the clutch, or in the case of an automatic by reducing gas pedal pressure, is not considered maintaining forward progress and is considered an intentional reversal of direction (back-up) and subject to penalty.

Points Condition
5 pts Delay of forward progress for longer than 5 seconds. Points continually accumulate at the rate of 5 pts for every 5 seconds of delay until steady forward progress is maintained (can be winch aided forward progress).
10 pts Intentional reversal of forward direction (back-up) by either using reverse gear or intentional drifting backwards. Distance traveled in reverse is not considered. When traveling in reverse, reverse is now considered the intended direction. If steady motion in reverse direction is delayed for longer than 5 seconds, it is considered a delay and subject to a 5 pt penalty.
50 pts No seat belt, per person, per move
50 pts Interaction with someone other than spotter, (tools, strap, spotting, verbal advice) per person or item, per time
50 pts Outside of marked trail, must attempt to immediately get back on trail by evidence of steering wheel position, otherwise points accumulate.
75 pts Use of a winch (must use a tree saver). Note: delay of forward progress penalty points continue to accumulate until steady motion in forward direction starts. Winching is intended to aid moving vehicle over immediate obstacle hanging up forward progress. No long winch pulls are allowed. Winch pulls longer than over immediate obstacle hanging up vehicle will be considered multiple winch pulls and subject to winch points for each obstacle vehicle encounters during the long pull.
100 pts Moving any rock, log, stick, twig to improve trail condition: per item, per instance
500 pts Rescue - no time limit
DQ Not moving after 20 minutes (note at this time vehicle will have accumulated 1200 pts in delay time
SAFTY Tree saver must be used when winching
SAFTY Spotter is either in the vehicle or out, no hanging onto side of vehicle, spotter can use a strap attached to vehicle to maintain vehicle balance as long as spotter is clear of being in any roll-over danger

I am spotting for a buddy in that and figure that if we have to winch there is no way to get out with less than a 170 point penalty - I am guessing that there will be some high scores. They sure are trying to keep you off the cable.

what are the prerequisites for running BoB? i remember in april skip was pissed because a few guys wanted to run in the best of the best but didnt want to set foot on the insanity trail. i remember then he said somehting about friday everyone who wanted to run BoB having to run insanity first, then BoB or something similar. basically the intention was that no pussys would be allowed into the competition. also any idea who will be competeting? any new faces or just badass, inventiv bronco (datsun?-see last monts Petersons if ya dont get it), red TLC, cj lagos in the 51 TJ??, ?? ,?? , ??

Man those are some crazy rules  Sounds like a lot of throttle jockeying :D

Sounds fast paced! Basically your gonna wanna back up and ram the obstacle repeatedly until you make it up.

I wonder how the cones will look, same as normal or wider?

Pretty strict, but everyone's still playing by the same rules, so it's cool.. I'd rather see something like that than just yanking cable after one feeble attempt at an obstacle... *cough cough Bettio cough*.... It might be using the rules to your advantage to win, but it sure wasn't entertaining to watch.
I want to see people give it Hell :D

I'm gonna be "driving" and RedFJ(Jim Rishel) will be spotting...should be interesting! I dont think the cones will be setup close together...but i'm usually wrong

BAJG--lets see some pics from the last time you were on the 11 trail!!

There is a lot of subjectivity there on the part of the judge when it comes to intentionally lettling off the throttle in an auto.

I think there will be a bunch of arguing and bitching.

Hell, what's new:rolleyes:

Too many rules IMHO.

If this is really a way to make people GET IT versus winching and dicking around, I think you should just D/Q someone that uses the winch.

You makin' this one? I want to check out your truck. Should be some pretty big trucks there, it's a shame a CJ on 38's is gonna walk away with it! Look out! Yeah let's see some of those pics again. I walked the freaking thing in June and had trouble.

On Friday, BOB competitors will run Helhole, part of death valley, part of ET and a new rock garden (I am betting that it is the one off the end of 6B). The top 5 qualifiers run Insanity on Saturday - I think the last truck still running through there wins. I am pretty sure that no one has run Insanity without at least cabling in - we'll see.

if you argue with the judge they'll probably just DQ you. It's not about winning or losing, it's about putting on a great show. If you've never been to big dogs you wouldn't understand. It's more for bragging rights than anything else. That's why the rules are different. How can you talk shit when you played the point game to win? They want the driver with the biggest nuts to win.

Hear is the end of the new rock garden. I don't have any good ones of the other parts. Fairly big rocks. Medium sized loose ones that like to roll out. Traction is iffy. The drop out is about 3 - 4 feet. The climb in is on the other side of the tree with the strap. ( the strap was to fix a inverted shackle ) The climb in wasn't too bad with 44's didn't happen with 36's. I don't think it's at the end of 6B. Enjoy... Have fun... and most importantly.... if things don't change, please don't bitch, whine, cry, complain to me at Hell Hole. Thank you.

Not BAJG but here's a CJ on 39.5's. My spotter said that if I hadn't of done this.... I would of made it with out winching. Once again, his last words to me were.... PERFECT.

The way to keep the subjectivity even is to keep the same judges at each stage. That way it is seen the same way each time.
Last year there wasn't any arguing or bitching. The hardest part for me was not to interact with other competitors. It gets kinda painful to watch someone "f" stuff up because the spotter doesn't see what you see.
The winching rule, I believe to keep the long pulls out. If you got long cable, you could just pull yourself through with one hook up. That's not wheeling. The hardest part is going to be counting that high. It's a good thing Don is there cuz Fred Flintstone (Skip) might have problems.
See ya Friday morning.
