Just thought i'd let you know the front 32 spline upgrade is free for the month of september- its a 200$ savings - but the 3.8 's are still on backorder- for about 3 weeks- - Jess

why anyone would want the 3.8 over the 4.3 is beyond me. If they are the same price then why get it. and dont feed me that I need it for my automatic tranny bullshit. Just get better brakes!!

@3.8 I get 137-1 so for $400-500 more I get 155-1. Not worth it to me. Not everyone is trying to make the grociery getter wheel so we don't need a t-case to make up for freeway gears and a 5spd.

Does that help make things clearer:flipoff2::D

i run an atlas 3.8 behind a vortec 350/ th400 combo and 4.56's in the axles running 42's. since i have gone to bigger tires i wish i had 5.13's for 2wd duties but it works fine in low. i could not imagine running a atlas 4.3 with rockwells and thier stock ratio of 6.72 (i think)

Why get the 3.8?

1: the crawl ratio isn't that much different.
2: Don't NEED a crawl that low, but something lower than the 55:1 I'm at.
3: insane crawl ratios are for web-wheelers.. :flipoff2:

Jess, thanks again for hooking up the PBB'ers!

I run the 3.03 Highlander with my 4L60E and LT-1.....I can't see why I would need a 4.3...hell I can barely stop the gears I have!

Hey, I resemble that remark!:flipoff2: Yep, I will probably "cheap out" with the 3.8 when the time comes.

well, i just got off the phone with him, bitching at him to finish his ride. See, he just got another DD(Z71 POS), so now he's all lazy and doesn't care about working on it...

Any more motivation from fellow BB members is greatly appreciated!!

I run an Atlas 4.3 behind a Vortech 350/4L80e combo and 4.56s in the axles running 38s - with a doubler in front of the Atlas! :p Haven't had any regrets about going 4.3 - of course it's spent most of it's life in the freaking garage, but that should change in a couple more weeks and it will be out on the trail again finally.

My biggest regret is that my Atlas shifts HORRIBLY!!! And yes, it already was back at Advance once for the 32-spline upgrade and frankly when it came back it was even worse. It is so difficult to shift, even after coasting to a stop in neutral, that I have had to get out of the rig at times and roll it back and forth myself just to get it out of 4wd! Paying that much you'd hope it say might shift as easily as the little old cheap 203 box I have in front of it! And yes, we've gone all through playing around with the linkage to make sure there's no binding. Granted I only have maybe 50 road miles on it and half a dozen hours of wheeling the first time the rig was done, but I sure hope this isn't how the Atlas is going to work long term!!! :barf:

I was referring to AA giving both of us this deal. As to my post coming later I figured I wasn't supposed to blatantly spam so I wasn't going to mention it, but if this one's OK then I'm not going to lay down either.

Me too!!

I ordered mine in late July. Came in the promised 2 weeks, though.

3.8 is reaaaaalllly nice behind the auto. For me it translates into a 47:1 no-load crawl ratio. I'm running 35" tires.

Factor in the 1.8 to 2.0-ish :1 reduction for the torque converter under load, and I'm getting an 80-90-ish : 1 crawl ratio. Plenty for my needs.
