Yep... another suicide at the same range that I frequent... the same one that the lady killed herself and her son... At least some of the lanes will open up after they quit renting guns....

Man Shoots, Kills Self At Gun Range
Gun Range Scene Of Murder-Suicide Earlier This Month

POSTED: Monday, April 27, 2009
UPDATED: 6:41 am EDT April 28, 2009

CASSELBERRY, Fla. -- A man killed himself at the Casselberrry gun range where a mother killed herself and her son three weeks ago, police said.

Jason Kevin McCarthy, 26, was found Monday at Shoot Straight in Casselberry with a gunshot wound to the head, police said. The gun was rented.

Now, the company wants to suspend all firearms rentals until the state allows gun ranges to conduct background checks on customers. But the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which runs background checks, said it was not allowed.

In early April, security video caught a mother walking up behind her 20-year-old son, pointing a revolver at the back of his head and firing a single shot. She then put the gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger.

Why don't they just stop renting altogether then?

Copy cat. Whatever, if they wanted out of this world that bad they whatever. I feel bad for the people that own, operate, and frequent that range.

Looks like they will until the State lets them background check everyone trying to rent.

I know the indoor ranges around here are huge cash cows. I would assume (never actually done it) that renting handguns at those ranges, is just as big a cash cow, 'cause you pay for the range time, plus the gun, plus the ammo.

I really don't get the "Now, the company wants to suspend all firearms rentals until the state allows gun ranges to conduct background checks on customers. But the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which runs background checks, said it was not allowed." bit, though. If they want to suspend all rentals, they're a privately owned company (I assume)... just do it. Or only rent to those with CCW's, or only to those who've actually *bought* a gun from them before, or.... It's financially stupid, but it's their call; leveraging the state of Florida to allow them to background check rentals is more likely to leverage a requirement that any transfer (lending, renting, selling, giving) between two entities, be they shops, persons, or whatever, has to go through an FFL and be background-checked. I really don't want to see that--I can just see it, loan a rifle to a friend so he can hunt, and we're both felons for it.

Besides a back ground check doesn't show if the person has a mental illness, is depressed or suicidal. Maybe they need an in house psychiatrist to screen everyone that wants to rent a gun.

They need a suicide deposit on the gun and range lanes.
If you kill yourself, they bill your credit card for damages and clean up

Hell, I don't what they should do.
Maybe open up a suicide range and rent small frame, large caliber guns with one bullet.
There are nutjobs out just sitting around waiting for a way to kill themselves. Once they see something like that, it inspires them to do the same. It is probably due to the thought of "I'll be famous" due to all the press.

We have had three suicides lately here locally, not at gun ranges BTW. Two shot themselves and one hung herself.

Long term solution to a short term problem.

That's exactly what they should do.

Here you can not rent a gun if you have not brought one in yourself. The thinking behind that is, if you were going to commit suicide, you alreay had the means without the rental gun.

I would just keep shooting unless I got some of them on me, then I would be pissed. Or I would request a refund because I am not having some tool fuck up my day of shooting :flipoff2:

Sounds like they need a washdown lane or two:laughing:

Smoking or non?

Suicide or recreation?

These lanes are for recreational use only
Suicide lanes are provided in the back

I got it!

my next business venture: get this:

DRIVE UP SHOOTING RANGE..

also, each lane is also a car wash....

And. there is also a car-dismantling/parts business...

You get em on all three items!

Gun rental, car wash to clean the mess, and then dismantle and sell car parts!

They should just keep renting, this seems like the kind of problem that solves itself.

It's not like there are going to be repeat offenders.

They should write up a contract that wills everything the deceased has to the gun range. Someone shoots themselves, the range gets their stuff

No kidding, true story.
Reminds me of a guy I worked with. They were working on the I-77 bridge over the Ohio river (between WV and Ohio). A car pulls off in the coned area. The woman gets out and climbs over the side. The construction super told a young laborer "Go see what she is doing". He thought she was going to try to steal something.

The laborer comes back. The boss asks, "What is she doing?"
He said, "She is going to jump off the bridge to kill herself"
The boss said, "What the hell did you tell her?"
He said, "I asked her if she wanted me to turn her car off? She said she didn't care. So I turned it off."

They called 911, shut the bridge down and eventually talked the lady out of it.

I've always thought the way they handled it Soilent Green would be the best option. Pretty light and scenes till the end. Then you are food:laughing::eek:

My wife is a park manager. People have killed themselves in other parks in her system. Kinda rude to leave a mess for other people to clean up.

Bring a gun to rent a gun, which I've heard of being done at many other ranges, seems like the best solution.

Suicide boothes would fix all these problems. We can learn great things from Futurama.

I went to a local place to rent a gun and you need a LTCF to rent, seems logical to me... Oh they will supply a weapon of choice if your taking a firearms course before buying a gun.

They need to weld up a 4'x4' stainless booth.
Walk in, shut the door.
Push the green button, record a video if you want to.
Put your chin on the rest like at the eye doctor, push the red button, and get the super-strength glaucoma test.
Chair dumps them, mega-size garbage disposal starts up, the pressure washer kicks in, and it's ready for the next person.:flipoff2:

I think laying down in front of the hotrod roto-tiller should be adequate.. Or just lay down under that 6v53 while unbolting it from the engine stand. :D

Just make sure you drop that 1480 lb engine on yourself after the HRRT starts nawing into your flesh. :D
