: How do you get the damned pulley off of a Saginaw Power Steering Pump

If Mike Slade can post Rover related questions on this board, I can too!

I'm trying to put a Saginaw power steering pump in my Rover. If you've ever seen the pumps in a Rover, you'll know why.

So far, I have the pump... Should have the hoses soon, and the brackets soon after. Only real problem is I don't have the right pulley and don't have the nifty tool to pull the pulley from the shaft. I doubt that I can realistically make a three hole flange to mount the Rover pulley to the Sag pump, nor drill the Sag pump to accept the Rover pulley.

Is the shaft threaded, or is it just press fit for the pulley?

Do I really need to buy the tool or is there another way to get the pulley off?

Anybody know which GM pulley will permit me to use the Dayco 885K7 belt-it's about an inch wide? The pulley I have is only about 5/8" wide. I have pretty much unlimited boneyard access.

Thanx in advance,
Paul

It presses on. You can rent a puller/installer from AutoZone.

Thanx! Once I get the pulley off, can I just drive the new one on, or is there something to watch for so I don't push the shaft through the back fo the housing? I have a hydraulic press.

You can't hammer it on or press it on without taking a chance of damaging the pump. Like I said, AZ rents the puller/*installer*. The installer pushes the pulley on without stress on the pump...
