I'm thinking of this- taking a 3/8 wall tube and threading the outside of the tube leaving aprox. .200 wall for the rock abuse and the thread being what pulls you up the rock- pic's coming soon- can anyone offer there thoughts? thanks Jess :D

Very creative, and a very cool idea.

But....once everyone is running them, won't it tear up the trails?

Maybe a "competition use only" disclaimer is in order

onetoncv

ah how could that tear the trails up- i mean were talking rock here- jess

sounds cool to me, make one and Ill put it on my rig for testing !! :flipoff2: free of charge of course!! :D

well - you pay for the rockcralwer part of the driveline and i'll throw in this new idea for free- :D - bu i want a pic of your ride and we also want to make sure your going to be able to wheel it properly- can you say abusive? Jess :D

I was actually cosidering something like this a few days ago- after looking at all the spiral grooves on the shafts of my comp rig.

I actually considered a 3/8 to 1/2 welded on strip like a fence post auger- not sure if 1/8 deep thread would get the job done.

You gott check with the rule makers first- it would be a bummer to come out with something that works, having invested in the program and to have it outlawed because it was interpreted to have more than 4 tires driving or propelling the vehicle:rolleyes:

that sounds interesting, but how often would you need something like that? although it would be cool to see people trying to grind up stuff, its all about shaft rash!

You could start a new trend of people getting standard rotation front ends so their junk will hang lower

If you need a more local test ride, I'm in SLO

It would probably work great (well, for anyone other than me...my d-lines are so high up that I really shouldn't have a problem hitting them)

this should work - give me a call - we want pics and your ideas on how it works- Jess 530-877-2875

very creative idea, it doesn't seem like it would get enough traction to be effective, but what do I know. Good luck guys!:)

I still think we need to test it and see how it works on a rig- Jess

I guess the idea is worth a shot.

Some of you guys think of the weirdest sh*t.

I might be able to test it out..I have a rav 4 on 30.-9.5-15 BFG mudders and it gets it on my cobble stone driveway:flipoff2:

you could make chain drive rockerskids...smae principal hehehe

how about some on the cage so when competing it could roll ya back over?

jess..I would think that finding the right thread would be the challenge but even splined might work...it would roll sideways but stillmove vehicle, and possibly wheels to ground...

just don't use reverse thread hehe

You could make a mud auger version as well...probably wouldnt stand up well to rocks though.

yep real close to that- Jess :D

RHINO
09-04-2002, 03:23 PM
hey jess after you thread it you should have a welder hard face the thread ridge, otherwise it will only last a couple of good hard granite "climbs"

onetoncv
09-04-2002, 03:29 PM
now things are gettin interesting- jess :D

RHINO

well i dig in dirt and bust rock all day with big equipement, if its not hard faced it wont last one day.

how would you back up?

Put the Tranny in R ??

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the driveshaft turns the other way in reverse :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Jess - I assume you place the slip splin at the T-case end?

How about this...a mini HD Rubber tank track that wraps around the diff......idlers in front of and behind the diff...and a mini hydro motor mounted on top to drive it. Don't know how you get around the driveshaft though

Maine Jeepah

tank track on either side of the pinion...just some of whatever that mattraxx type stuff is.

Good idea. :)

Not sure that splines will do as someone on this board had clover implement shaft made and not sure how well it worked but I would do it reverse for the front first...you might also want to do radial cuts to segment up the auger screw threads....seems like a couple trips on the lathe should do the trick....what does everyone think about just tube on the outside or even heavy weld? I would think that you need a fairly tight thread to get it to move...

Tiem to fess up Jess, this is your new secret idea to keep up with me when the white stuff starts falling:flipoff2:
Seriously though, I'm willing to try it and I already have a rock crawler line and I'm only 7 minutes down the hill. We'll go do saddle/Morris to test it out.

That looks pretty cool.

I originally thought of the threads as being deeper....

Looks kinda trick, like one of those billet aluminum oil filter covers, only useful

If it gets used for what it is meant for, it won't look very trick for long. :)
