: cj7 outboarding brackets
RockHard4x4 04-30-2009, 04:47 PM found a good deal on 3/4 ton d44/14bolt
i seen that blue torch fab sells a kit, but its alot more then i want to spend
im looking for a kit or 1 place that sells all of the hanger and shackle mounts neededfor the front and back
basically i wanna order some brackets and start welding them on
also, since it will be spring over, are the d44 knuckles already set to put on high steer?
any links to cj7 buildups would be cool too!
0311 Infantry 04-30-2009, 05:13 PM RuffStuff makes weld on brackets, form my research I think make a good product and it is reasonable on price. Many guys on here have used them. I have not bought them yet because I am still on the fence as to outboarding.
Good luck.
no_bs 04-30-2009, 05:28 PM It is really easy to make your own outboard brackets, but the roughstuff stuff is real nice if you want something pre-made. Roughstuff also sells kits to swap in rear axles including ubolts, perches, and plates. The chevy 44 knuckles will be drilled and tapped on the drivers side but not on the passenger side, that knuckle will need to be machined.

That is where I got the basic ideas from for mine.
jr84cj 05-01-2009, 01:51 PM You cant just drill and tap any old D44 pass side knuckle... it has to be a flat top knuckle. 1976 or 75 and older.
Great info

cibholder03 05-01-2009, 05:44 PM I plan on doing the same thing instead of buying the BTF kit. I just saw another guy do this with RuffStuff brackets. He bought 2 sets of their 4.5" Frame Outriggers (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/frame-outriggers-45-p-251.html), 1 set of their 2.75" Standard Shackle Hangers (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/standard-shackle-hanger-p-182.html), and 1 set of their Leaf Spring Hangers for 2.5" springs (http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/spring-hanger-springs-p-123.html) and ran YJ leafs (2.5" wide) in an SRS setup and it looked very clean. Also, I think he only had like $200 in it, which is way cheaper then the 600 bones BTF wants for their kit. The only thing is that you will need the leafs and axle for the mock up to tack them in place if you don't already have them and you have to consider that the BTF kit comes with a bumper and directions/measurements on where to weld them if you want to install it and add the axles after.
CJ4U2NV 05-01-2009, 09:07 PM if you can weld just do it yourself. super easy. you can see mine in the link in post#4
jpfrk2001 05-01-2009, 09:49 PM I out boarded my front end on my YJ using brackets from ruffstuff. Details are in my second link in my sig. Its not hard to do. I took my time on jigging it up(2 full days) before doing any welding. So far, mine performs beyond my expectations and runs true and straight running 80 MPH.
Gravel Maker 05-03-2009, 12:45 PM The outriggers are the sh*t to do it easy and way strong!
cibholder03 05-04-2009, 07:33 AM jpfrk2001: your thread is what got me looking at the RuffStuff leaf spring hangers, I have bought their stuff before for my link parts, etc. and was impressed with the quality and price. Nice work on the YJ by the way. I love the stance and wheelbase. Great work!
Gravel Maker: Love your stuff, great products at great prices for the average guy's budget. I tell everyone that's willing to do their own stuff to get their brackets from RuffStuff. My link mounts are still holding up after several years of off-roading and my HEAVY right foot. Thanks again for the great products and I will post up some pics using your outriggers and leaf spring brackets and hangers I am using for my lastest CJ-7 1 ton axle swap project when I get all my parts together and get off my lazy behind and start mocking and welding.

The 89' XJ that got and 8.8 and 4 linked rear with your stuff (sorry only picture I could find in the shop)
mudskipper4x4 05-04-2009, 11:11 AM If you can cut, weld and use a tape measure, make them yourself to save some coin. If not then go with ruffstuff.
p.s. I built mine.

Yes they are... what I used. Your stuff rocks!
Brentmckinsey 05-04-2009, 06:34 PM no one has mentioned M.O.R.E. yet. I have there reverse shackle and it I like. It was resonable, and is a nice product. IIRC it's a weld on/bolt on kit. It's a little over 400 bucks.

BTW - thanks for the pictures that are in the link above (post 4) - it really helped me see how easy these will be.
