But throw in some verticle walls where wheel spin comes into play, and I think the radials may have the edge.
Lance, are you referring to the MT/Rs (er... competitors radials) softening up & getting sticky when basically doing a 4-wheel-burnout?

SXs are hard to beat simply because they work well in mud (unlike them thar radials), they're tough as hell, and they're relatively sticky on rocks to boot.

if you are trying to make the ruber compound softer/stickyer what about useing vht or track bite like the circle track boys do? i used to use it all the time .. works great.. and i dont think they've outlawed it in 'crawling comps yet.. lol..

The website says only 15" wheels? That kinda sucks...oh well. Nice lip on those, AND 32 bolts.

They should have a 17" Beadlock very soon (or it may already be available).

I have their 15" locks and agree with what Lance said. They are tough and the rolled edge holds up well while giving plenty of protection to the bolt heads.

what kind of pricing do they have on the bead locks?

I ordered a set of Allied 17X8 bead locks 3 weeks ago and got the call today there ready to be picked up. Oh yeah got em threw the Four X Doctor in Burbank.
I got em with 4.5" B.S. but it's my understanding you can get any B.S. you want.

Terrific,

Now if only they made them (the beadlocks) in a MAN'S size (16.5") I'd be all set :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I recieved a quote yesterday for high impact wheels for 15x10x8x6.5x2.5bs for $168 each. Thanks Lance for the write up, I am in the market for wheels and tires and it sealed the deal on what I am going to buy. The 38.5x14.50 were already on top of the list.

Great write up Lance,

How do you like the grooving pattern you went with?

IMO I don't think the 39.5 Bogg can touch the SX (except maybe in mud, but I don't really do mud ;) )

Im pleased with it. I would probably do a few different cuts if I were to do it again, but I am happy with the way the outer lugs are cut, and how they are holding up.

Give Rockstomper a shout - they may be able to do those for ya in the not so distant future.

Call them and see what they can do. Maybe it's in the works, I don't know. I do know they have 17's, but dunno about 16.5 availability.

Great write up...

What size were the rims that you used for the 38.5s?

After reviewing the website/tech drawings it appears that the "lock ring" could be damaged by rocks? The rolled edge seems like it would get bent or distorted more than a flat ring would. I have never had beadlocks and I am in the market trying to decide between the high impact or the MRT and I am just scepticle about the look of that lock ring. It would be cool if you could elaborate on that aspect.

Thanks,

How many blades did it take for all 4 tires, you bought a 12 pack of the #5 and the #2s?

The #5 on the center lugs looks great,

Daniel, how do you compare this Tire Groover - H.D. 250 Watt w/#5 Head $60 grover to that pricy one you have lent to afew of the guys.

I think this cheep groover will be in my hands soon, looks GREAT!!!

I used the Ideal Tire Knife to groove my TSLs. As far has how it compares to the pricey one? It doesn't. You actually have to push, you can't do it if the tires are cold (do it on a hot day in the sun). ect...

It's adequate, but not something I would use for a living.

The one Daniel has is the mac daddy. If your doing it every day, I wouldn't touch the ideal unit. But for grooving one set of tires, and then another in a couple years after those wear out, the ideal knife is fine.

Basically,
Daniels = Expensive and powerful. Get it if you groove lots.
Ideal Knife = Cheap but more work, all you need to groove once or twice a year.

{EDIT:} I used one blade on all four tires. You only wear them out if you go too fast, cuz then the blade cools down and you psh hard enough to break it.

Also, the ideal knife is only good for making slits in tires. If you want to cut the little lugs out of your boggers with this unit, you're going to have to use a sawzall to cut the bulk of hte lug off, and then use this to trim of that last little bit.

for $60 Ill give it a try, Ill do afew sets and my friends will do afew sets, so if it lasts through like 24 tires Id say its worth it. Its just a speed/cost trade off and sounds like it can do the job.

Thanks for the feed back.

JW, you were wondering about the lock rings- they hold up great, for me at least. I have beat the hell out of 'em and had them make NASTY rock grinding noises without denting or bending one. And oddly enough the rocks don't even touch the bolt heads.

Only used one blade each.

JW - My rings are still perfect. The paint is scratched off of them, but other than that, they are holding up well. Like Slag said, my bolts are untouched so far.

I was just thinking that you would not be able to get back Lance because you were in Johnson Vally (?) but thanks.

Maybe you can let me know of the rim size you used in your comparo, that is the tire I have chosen to run as well. Is it a 10" wide rim, is my quesion.

Thanks

my 38 sx on High impact wheels are 15x10's I love em, my bolts have not been scraped either, the ring some rash on it, but thats what its there for.
FYI people always ask weight so just to let you know the beedlock wheel alone weight 32 pounds
