Hey guys, got a question for you. Got a real good friend who's got a 83 CJ7 with the plastic valve cover and it leaks big time!
It's got a couple of cracks and is time to replace it.
Is there any other cover that will work, like one from AMC eagle or somthing that will cross over? Steel would be much better than plastic and the dang aluminum covers are over a hundred bucks!

Thanks ( and yes I did a search and got nothing!)

uh earlier (not sure what years exactly 70's) 258s in all types of AMC vehicles had them.

I have one on a 75' 258 in my garage right now.

Not sure that all the holes line up exactly but you'll figure it out.

FWIW I run a newer plastic one because I like taking chances and got a gasket form Napa that was recommended by a friend.

It has two layers of cork, and a layer of metal inbetween...I slathered soem rtv on each side as well.

Also drilled and tapped the stock bolt holes and put in larger bolts with lock washers.

It will leak again...but it is waay better than it was before.

I like the undercoating anyway. ;)

Spend the hundred bucks and buy an aluminum cover. I've had one from Quadratec for almost 2 years with no leaks.
