: Who has the best spring perches for the money?
ouibus 09-04-2002, 01:50 PM I already did the search thing, so save me the abuse. I also know that a lot of you people will say to make my own. I don't have the best tools at hand, so that is not an option. I am running a D60 rear that I need some spring perches for. The axle tube size roughly 3" in diameter and the spring that I am running are 2.5" wide. Where would be the best place to pick up some perches.
I already looked at the Dodge perches as well, and I wasn't that impressed. Besides my local Dodge dealer doesn't stock them. I wouldn't mind having a anti wrap perch, but it is not necessary. So any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
ouibus 09-04-2002, 01:52 PM Well, I just measured the axle tube on the sixty that I have and it is exactly 3.158" in dia. So maybe that will help out a little bit.
RHINO 09-04-2002, 03:31 PM "for the money" the dodge perches are the best, they are $8 a pair here.
but it is not hard and does not take much to make them, i assume you have a drill? get a 3" hole saw, i think they make a 31/4" too, cheap is fine, drill a hole in the middle of some appropriate size square tube, then split the tube down the center with a sawsall, you can rent those. but then my Q would be if you dont have tools to make perches, how are you going to attach them??
Maine Jeepah 09-04-2002, 03:41 PM yep the mopar performance ones are sweet...mine were $9 a pair as I recall.
Mopar Performance# P4120074 (3" tube)
If I needed more than four I'd have made em I think.

ouibus 09-04-2002, 03:51 PM Rhino,
I have a nice welder, and some other power tools, but they are just not best when it comes to making some things. I also have an old school drill press that tends to stall when heavy pressure is applied to it. I guess if I really wanted to, I could make them. But if I could find a nice set for $20-$30, then I would pick them up.
Like I said the local Dodge dealer doesn't stock those perches and they go for $15 for a pair. They seem like they would work, but there sure does seem like a lot of rounded edges on them. I am just asking to see if anyone has any other sources for spring perches that they use that would for my application.
Maine Jeepah 09-04-2002, 03:58 PM mine doesnt stock em either...ordered em for me took two days...why must stealers jack us on prices...dont they know we have the internet?
Can you get Mopar Performance parts online? whats the price there...see if the stealer will match it...my ford dealer matches fordpartsonline prices...just a thought.
EDIT: these guys have em 7.95 a pair

ouibus 09-04-2002, 04:05 PM I hadn't thought of checking with Mopar Parts online. I will do some searching and see what I come up with. Although I would mind hearing if anyone else has some other places that they know of that have decent perches for sale.
Scout Dude 09-04-2002, 04:08 PM Ok, it seems that no one else is going to help you, so here goes:
Rubicon Express uses their anti-wrap perches. They are $30 and are 7" long IIRC. I have use them for multiple applications and they work great.
I also use the Mopar ones -found out about them after using the RE ones.
MORE also makes some but I have never used them.
I make lots of stuff...and I would still buy spring perches...sometimes it's just easier to buy something than go through all the hassle of making it. BTW, holesawing through 1/4" sux. Use a plasma!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the RE ones for sure are for 2.75" tubing. You have to grind them out a little;)
Maine Jeepah 09-04-2002, 04:08 PM i just linked it not much searching to do now. ;)

coyote 09-04-2002, 05:50 PM Do what WMS does...3/8" plate to whatever size you want then take two flat plates and radius them and then weld on...two plates for the top two with weld tabs for the bottom and your done with no bending and all flat mounts...sorry no pics on their web site but they're spendy at $200 for a set and if you have decent mech skills they could be made and my next set will be made by me as I'm getting better at this shit.....
ouibus 09-04-2002, 06:08 PM Thank you guys for the help. Scout Dude that was exactly what I was looking for. I called RE becasue we used those perches when we did the axle swap on my friend CJ. They worked great for him, but I asked what size of axle tube they fit, and the guy said a YJ stock axle that was around 2 1/2" in dia. I figured that was too much to grind off.
Thank you also Maine Jeepah, you had some good input as well. Also, thanks for the link.
Coyote, those WMS perches sound cool, but I am having a hard time invisioning what they look like.
Anyway, thanks again guys and keep the suggestions coming.
If you gotta have them right away drive to Denver and get some Con Ferr perches from Mile Hi Jeep Rebuilders. They are the beefiest perches I've seen. I can't believe there's this much discussion on perches. I would have ordered the Mopar ones if it were this difficult to find them locally. Have you been to John's 4x4 yet? I'm sure they have plenty in stock.
ouibus 09-04-2002, 10:45 PM I am not in a huge hurry to get some, I was just wondering who had the best to offer. I have a couple of shops up here in Fort Collins that I can pick some up from. I was wanting to get a feel for the market before I bought any.
Like I said, I can order the Mopar ones, but I am not terribly impressed with their quality.
I am sure that John's 4x4 would carry them, but I have heard that their prices are ridiculous. Mile Hi is a good shop, just a little far to drive for some spring perches. I was looking more at something that was mail order. Hope that clears some things up.
larryboy 09-04-2002, 10:52 PM did you look at the links i posted? sometimes a few $'s more is worth it to me.my time is worth more than saving 5 or 6 bucks running around town looking for the best deal. my .02
ouibus 09-05-2002, 12:10 AM larryboy,
I did look at the links that you posted. The first ones are basically the Mopar perches and I really am not a fan of the design of them. The second link shows the Moroso ones and they look okay, but they are only 1/8" thick. I was looking to get something that was at least a 1/4" thick. I totally agree with your logic though. Sometimes the best deal is not always the best part. I usually try to find out what is going to work the best for my application, and then weigh the cost issue. Basically the best bang for the buck senario. I can be tight with money sometimes, but I am by no means a cheap ass.
