Is anybody can tell me if the 5.8ltr from a F350 1994 is roller cam? What year Ford 5.8 change for roller cam?

I have choice to swap a 5.8 1995 or 1994 in my Jeep, any benefit from one to other?

I am planning to use the 5.8 EFI with my C4, since the 5.8 1994-95 use connector to the AOED transmission, do i need to use the same transmission or if i can just cut the connector that goes to the transmission ?

Thanks

All 1994 to 1997 F-150, F-250, F-350 etc. trucks with a 5.8 use a roller BLOCK with the casting number F4TE-6015-AA. Whether or not the engine actually has a roller cam can be questionable. No Lightnings were built with roller cams and the trend seems to be that the closer to 1997 or the larger the truck the more likely it was built with a roller cam installed. The F4TE-6015-AA block was cast with taller lifter bores to accomadate the taller lifter bodies of the roller type lifters and with bosses cast and drilled and tapped in the lifter valley to retain the lifter tie bar retainer spider. Any F4TE block can be used with a roller cam by installing the appropriate camshaft, lifters, lifter tie bars, lifter tie bar retaining spider and bolts and the correct shorter pushrods to make up for the taller lifters. It seems that these blocks can be difficult to find at times ( I looked 3 years before I scored one). I hope this helps and good luck on your project.

That's interesting. I had always heard that the Lightnings were roller motors.

lightings were never roller cam equipped, but the blocks are roller cam ready.

Find a '95 or '96 351w and it will have a roller cam (shares the same cam as the explorer).

Is that means the 95 + has a roller cam ?

I pulled a roller cammed 351w from a '96 F-250. The engine was mfg in 1995.

The 351w that is in my jeep is a Ford reman and it too is roller cammed equipped. It was supposed to be a replacement long block for a '95 E250 passenger van.

If you find a 351w in a '95 or '96 truck or van, pull the intake to verify.

Dunno if mine was roller or not, but it was a metric block, and parts were expensive as hell. Had a bent rod when I bought the truck, ended up putting a 5.8L out of a boat in it. Turned out to be cheaper. Traded a P.O.S. Chevy Blazer for the engine.

98% of the factory mass air trucks are roller - i have only seen one that wasnt - but it was a beater and could have had a motor swap at one time

the 100% way to tell is pull the dizzy and get a small mirror and look in the valley - if it has a retainer its a roller

you can use what ever tranny you like - but you will need to trick or program the ecm

I forgot about that. '94 was the crossover year from OBD1 to OBD2. The oddball trucks with the 5.8L had two DLC's, one was the old-style OBD1 connector under the hood, the other (OBD2) was under the dash, I think on the passenger side, and it was only operational on the 5.0L trucks. Mine's a speed density system.

pull the intake. leave the upper attached, remove at the lower... lower gaskets are like $10.00.

yes indeed! but that takes a trained eye...:D

could also pull a v/c and look thru a pushrod hole to see the lifters.

might also pull a pushrod and measure the length. the roller lifter pushrods are shorter than the non-roller cammed pushrods.

a roller pushrod for a 5.8l is 7.567" in length. non roller are 8.1XX" long.

OBDII is 96 and up on our trucks. Not 94. The plug may be there, but its not OBDII.
