motor blew (4 banger), wanna drop in a v8, maybe a 305 or 350, with a 5 speed. i have a trail rig and this 93 will be mostly a "mallcrawler", keeping stock running gear. what t case will i need? not set on the v8, could do whatever, 360,302,350, and not really set on tranny, 3 speed,4 speed, 5 speed, or auto. there are lots of experienced guys on here, just looking for some advise and tips. any combos work best? are easier? would like to keep the 4x4 for easy trails etc... thanks guys. gimmee some input.

Search around, there a quite a few of these done. You can keep the NP231, but your tranny will have to go. A GM 350 with a 4l60e/700r4 is as easy as any. If you are going to swap something in might as well go big. It all takes the same amount of work.

With an adaptor and the correct transmission output shaft, yes. It is not extremely strong though, so you may want to factor in the power you will be making. You are absolutly required to lose the AX5 unless you like the sounds of thrashing metal.

thanks. thinking 350 ci with th350.--- the th350 output shaft needs to mate the np231? so if rebuilding the tranny, get a matable shaft. got cha.-----any other info? will the stock steering linkage have to be moved? what about wiring harnesses? an older 350 carbed, does it have a harness to or just the efi stuff?
