MIL has a pistol that belonged to my wife's dad. She has no use for it, said she'd like me to sell it for her. I'd rather just give her some $$$ and keep it for one of my kids when they get older (sentimental and all that).

I want to be fair to her - so I need some help coming up with what I should give her.

I don't see a model number anywhere. Barrel on one side says:

.38 Special

Other side says:

AMADEA ROSSI S.A.
SAO LEOPOLDO R.S.

Side of the frame says:

MADE IN BRASIL
INTERARMS
ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA

Blued finish, wood grips, 5 shot, Rossi inset logo on the grips up high.

I'll get some pics up as soon as I find my camera, looking for suggestions on what I've got here.

It's pretty clearly a copy of an S&W:

My WAG would be in the $200-250 range

My guess is to really sell it, I would price it around $200.
You catch the right person, you might get $250 out of it if you want sit and wait.

Of course the way guns are selling right now, you might get more.
Now is definitely a good time to sell.

I would offer her $150 for it if you were going to keep it.

Don't be a cheap ass, it's family:shaking:

I'd say give her $250-$300 and tell her you're keeping it for the sentimental value.

So you give her more than it's "worth", big deal. You're getting to keep a family firearm in the family and you're helping her out a bit, something you'd probably do anyways right??

I say this based on YEARS of buying selling and trading .38s of all types I can still buy S&Ws for 250-300 all day, if you were to try to sell me any Rossi for more I would give you a very polite NO! I understand this is family so I will say that if she needs money and you have it pay 500 if you want to, but realise you are helping family not fairly pricing a gun. Bought a .303 off my late brother for twice what it was worth best gun buy I've ever made!!

She does not "need the money", just to be clear.

My initial thought was to give her $150-$200 for it...

I'd guess it could be a mod 31, which came with a 4" barrel, was discontinued in 1985, and the last MSRP was 139.00. Fjestad's blue book lists it at 120.00 at 100%. Or it could be a mod 68, which came in a 2" or 3" barrel and was made until 1998 and the last MSRP was 225.00. At 100% it's listed at 165.00. From the picture I can't tell if it's a 4" or 3". If she's a friend, just give her a grand.

She's my mother in law :p

And It's a 4" barrel.

I gave her $200. One of my sons will probably enjoy having their grandfather's (who they never got to meet) pistol.
