New Soft Top!
I just installed my new Specialty Top. (Kayline) (Ok a few weeks ago but it has not been on the rig due to great weather) I love the way the thing looks! I ordered it custom with gray vinyl and 35% tinted rear windows. I then had them put a light tint 5% or so on the door windows. Since the back is darker the doors look darker from the outside, but great visibility from the inside.
My only complaint is the door handles. Poor design, I will be taking them off the installing the paddle type.

WANNA SNAP SOME PICS OF THE FAMOUS "KAYLINE KIDNEY CUTTERS" FOR ME? I'M INTRUIGED AS HOW THESE HANDLES COULD BE SO BAD AND THEY CONTINUE TO MAKE THEM.
LOOKING GOOD, I DIG THE TINT.

Nice looking top, wish they had the tint option 6 years ago :(
Here is my way around the infamous "kayline kidney cutters"
I extended the kayline latch to hook into the factory striker hoop.

Do the sides and back come off or roll up? snap some pitures with them off or rolled up. I would be interested in seeing that. I talked to specialty top about 3 weeks ago and they said they were working on a new design to be out soon. Is this the new design?

Fixxxah, I am sure they keep using them since the paddle type cost retail something like $15 each, so say $7-8 wholesale. This set up is using basic stamped parts and an injection molded handle (Still has the "K" for Kayline in it) so once you have your tooling made for these parts it cost's basically nothing to make. I bet it costs them less than $4 per door handel in quantity including all the hardware. Use the same freaking handle on all doors/models and you can save quite a bit over the years. I love the name, Kidney cutters.. in less that two weeks I got the scar just above my right kidney! I will shoot a picture of the latch and post it up Friday. Sorry off work tomorrow and no dig. still camera at home. I am spending the day finishing up my new roll cage. Ahh a day off work working my the rig! It's a rarity!
Mender, cool idea I like how you continued to use the factory parts. I discovered if you mount the handles upside down from the instructions it is easer to open the doors. (Just switch that inner handles from each side) Basically instead of pushing the handle downward (thus pushing the latch further onto the striker) you pull the door upwards pulling it away from the striker. Ok I did not discover this on my own, credit goes to my fellow cruiser friend Travis Winkler. He stopped by when I was putting the suckers on and cursing the evil basted that designed the things.
Oakly, nope not the new design. The new one will have the sides so you can zipper them off like the stock TJ's. (not that I pay much attention to the heaps!) I chose not to wait, I have learned from being in the manufacturing business new products never seam to make it to the market in a timely manner! Heck it took over a month to get this top made for me. The new Bestop fastrack top has this feature I believe. Yes this top's sides to roll up, but I will have to refrain from rolling them up just yet. Ok I know I am going to get it for this... I want to prolong the cob web scratches for as long as I can. Yes I know you can see the .25" thick bondo falling off the front right fender (Thanks PO), and the rocker has been stuffed. (Thanks to Rocker Knocker in Moab in May and Little Sluice on the Con three weeks ago) I just want to keep one part looking nice for awhile.... Buy the end of this winter it will all be toast. Oregon has lots of trees and once in my rig I drive it for having fun and think stuff latter. (Somtimes good somtimes bad!
Thanks Big Dave.

Thanks, It ended up being the most costly top, but it was worth the extra $200 to get what I wanted. Shipped to Oregon it cost $770 with the doors. Most of the other tops come in the $500 range w/o shipping. It attaches to the tub on a rail syst. so no snaps. (and all the holes in the tub) I have had Snap Bestops in the past and the Kayline quality by far beats out the Old school Bestops. However with the new fast track tops out from Bestop they may have the upper hand. They just don't come with doors yet. For now I am happy with what I ended up with. Now to retro the freegin door handels!
