I have an 84 Ford F150 4x4. I think it has a C5 (auto) trany and a NP208F transfercase.
First: Is it a C5? How do I tell?
Second: Can I put a NP205 behind it? Was it ever offered behind this trany or will an adapter of some sort be required?
Thanks,
Jesse

next time you might want to put a better topic in the subject line...
Unless you have a v6 under the hood, then you dont have a c5. You will have either a c4 or a c6 tranny. The c6 has a large square pan that will take up a good chunk of the underside of your rig. While a c4 has a smaller rectangular pan. If you have overdrive, then its a AOD, or quite possably a EAOD. *Electronic overdirve* Your T-case is a new prosess 208. The aluminum case is quite well built and can take most of what you can toss at it. Just dont smack it on a rock. It will Shatter. If you can find a 205 with drivers side front output then it might bolt up. I seem to recall somone saying that it did bolt up, but i could be wrong.
A 205 should bolt up if you don't mind the 1.96:1 low range. At the risk of stating the obvious, they are heavy and I'd recommend supporting it from the side of the 'case to the framerail, but most people say this is not necessary. You may have to notch your adapter for the shift linkage, that's all I can think of.
