I am looking to get a large impact I have a small Ir right now I think 325 ft pounds of torque. I am looking at getting one around 600 to 1000ft pds for the really stubborn stuff u bolt nuts, spring hangers, the rusted stuff. I am looking and the Air cat nitro cat Extreme 1000 and the Ir thunder gun are pretty close in price around $200.00 I am not going to be using it all the time maybe 2 or 3 times a month. Which one would you recommend. I am seeing alot of mixed reviews on both.

i second the HF stuff for occasional use. i have a 1" HF gun, and if you can supply a large, unending amount of air to it, it will hammer some nuts off. general rule on the HF stuff is it takes more air to run them, but they run...

Bought my Nirto on Ebay about a year ago and loved it ever since.

Try turning up your air pressure, it makes a huge difference. I don't know why tool manufacturers only recommend 90 psi, but most shops I've been in run around 150 psi. At home I run 125 psi and I notice a huge difference with the same IR impact at work where we run 150 psi.

Get an S&K Pro-Gun. I've got the 1/2 and 3/8 drive guns and they're fawking strong! The 1/2" is rated to 1200 lbft and I have yet to find a nut it won't break loose, or break. I gave about $130 for my 1/2" drive one brand new from a store on ebay.

Get a bigger air hose too. When I need to lean on something I have a 1/2 inch hose. Major difference.

Harbor freight earthquake.
x2 Got mine for $42 after sale + coupon and, for the money, it works ridiculously well.

I've got the IR 2135 TIMax and I have yet to run across a bolt that it won't take off. It's not too heavy, it's quiet, it's strong, and it does what I ask it to do.

IR2135, Milton V style couplers, and run the pressure at 120psi or higher for the really stubborn stuff.

You'll blow out internal seals and wear out the internals faster by running at a higher PSI. I have a slightly older IR Ti model, awesome, awesome gun. If you have got the compressor I'd second the 1" gun with 1/2" line. In all honesty thou I have never had a bolt tell me no with a 1/2" ratchet and good sized cheater pipe.

For the $$$, the 1/2" HF earthquake gun rocks. It is every bit as good as my craftsman branded IR 2131 gun. Several friends have them, and they are very good. I have the 3/8" HF earthquake as well, and it too is a decent gun, especially for the $$$.

IR 2135 TI Max, awsome gun, light weight, works awsome, though it's not cheap.

I have the IR titanium. I'd definitely reccomend it. It's also lightweight, and that makes a difference after a while.

I am leaning towards the nitro cat or the Ir thunder gun. They the nitro cat online for $165.00 so I can get northern tool to price match and knock 10% off of that. They have the thunder gun for $199 at Hobo frieght. I have had bad luck with Harbor fright brand tools and am not really trying to go back down that path to save $50.00 .

Had IR2135Ti for 4-5 yrs then went to Snap on MGyayday 1/2" guns. Snap on is good but pricey but I never met a bolt that the 2135 wouldn't move though. I think the Ir2135's just hit harder for some reason. I sold the 2135 to another guy in my shop and he is still using it to this day and I bought it around 02'. Also heard good things about the NitroCats, I have just never used one.

Although 99% of what I use now is the 28v Milwaukee :flipoff2: I love not dragging cord all over. Thist hing weighs 500lbs but its nice, haha.

I have the nitrocat TC and love it. Whatever you get, change over to V style fittings, as suggested above. It's like putting nitrous on your impact.

I picked up the Aircat 1000-TH, very nice gun. I had a bunch of crap ass Craftsman stuff, so it is a huge improvement
