: Chevy with driverside drop 205
joefear7 09-05-2002, 03:12 AM Im going to be running a chevy 350 with a sm465 and a np205 transfer case, and someone was telling me that if I were to run a driverside drop it (the drive shaft) would be in the way of the Chevy oil filter on the motor. Does it matter if your lifted? Or can you just relocate the filter. The only reason that i would do this on the driverside is because there seems to be alot more driverside d60 front ends out there.
rodzzilla 09-05-2002, 04:37 AM Don't know for sure. But, if it is, you can always run a remote filter.
4Bangler 09-05-2002, 05:35 AM I assume you're talking about running a 2wd SM465 with a divorced Ford 205 to get a driver's side drop, and yes, the oil filter could get smashed, but remote filter kits are chaep, and if you're lifted enough it may not be an issue. If you are running the Ford case, you may want to consider an SM420 trans, they are easy to find in a 2wd application, and offer excellent driveshaft clearance on the driver's side, plus they have a lower compound low gear, 7.05:1 vs 6.54:1. As for keeping the drivetrain length down to a minimum, try using a CV centering yoke for the intermediate shaft, I used a 1350 CV from a newer F350, just the "H" peice with two 1350 joints and bolted it to a slip yoke for my 2wd 4L80E and botled the other joint to the input yoke for my Ford 205. I'm sure Jess at High Angle could hook you up.
partsjunkie 09-05-2002, 05:44 AM got a 400 auto hooked to a ford case. with a little lift clears filter fine . running reverse cut 60 with no problems using chevy motor
heep86 09-05-2002, 09:18 PM if you don't want to use a divorced case, then advanced adapters has just made an adapter for a 700r4 or a 4l60e to a ford 205 (it is not in the catalog yet, for more info you could call frankies off road 205-594-5098, we have one in our shop right now)
as for running a ford 60 they are cool because of the high pinion, and if the oil filter is in the way i agree with everyone else, relocate.

Do you know if they make a similar adaptor to run a SM 465 with the ford 205 (non divorced)? I guess ill give them a call to anyways and see what they say.
YELLER BLAZER 09-07-2002, 05:50 AM It is possible with a little work to put a ford 205 on a 400. Install a 400 input gear in the 205, notch the adapter for the shift fork (a 208 adapter can be used), may need to purchase an indexing ring from advance or GO2Guy to get the t-case clocked correctly. It will all work together.
P|n-BaLL 09-07-2002, 08:46 AM A bit off topic but anyone here ever toss a Chevy 205 on a C-6?.....if so I would seriously appreciate the tech and how too.

Oxjockey 09-07-2002, 11:57 AM There should be two filters available for a 350, a short and a tall one. The short one, I beleive is for use if you're also running an oil cooler, to reduce the overall stickout. I don't have the numbers of the two of them off hand, but it may be worth a check.
Of course, you're reducing the size of the element, as well...

yea the Purolator numbers for the big one is 34631 and the slightly smaller goes on the carmero and its a 20049 the newer chevy 4x4s have always used the smaller s-10 filter which is 24011 i think but regardless id just relocate my filter if i did it.
