I am looking for a 1/2 cordless impact gun to change tires on the road, to not always have to fire up the compressor and pull hose out into the driveway.
I guess that I would like rugged and dependable with a pair of batteries. The Dewalt I put hands on was very large and heavy.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks, Dan

the millwakee is the same one that matco and a few others use as there private label, very strong. and you can get the light weight lithium and 28v.

i caught a smokin deal on a 19.2v dewalt with 2 batteries on the local lowes clearance table about 2 years ago...not shittin, i got it for $99.00....they were discontinuing it....it's the real deal...

previously, i had the same thing in a snap-on that was $456 with only one battery....it was stolen...

i loved them both...the dewalt is a little cumbersome, but holds up just fine...that's the one that i would suggest....

i bought a chicago electrioc one once...it worked for 45 seconds, would not break a honda accord lug nut loose....went in the trash...

I have 2 of the 18v snap on ones with the Mag. case. I think I would look at the millwakee then pick. I like the Lithium of the mill. and the higher Volts. and Foot LBS. of the Millwakee.

I got the Dewalt 18v. Picked it up on Fleabay for $150 shipped with two batteries and a 12v car charger. Hell the batteries alone are over $100 at home depot. It is a little big and not exactly nimble but its been good to me. All my other cordless tools are Dewalt so it was a no brainer for me.

This is the 1/2" impact my dad and I have. Dad loves his for around the farm. He uses his for taking tires off our silage wagons to changing discs on the discbine. I use mine for changing lawnmower blades, rotating tires, etc. I love mine. Dewalt makes a larger version that Lowes sells I believe. The unit weighs about the same as my Mil. 1/4 impact. The batteries hold their charge for a good while and it only takes about an hour to charge the battery.

I have the Snap-On CT4850. You get what you pay for with these things.

I think they all publish the torque specs on those things, I would look at the price/torque ratio. I have the 28v Milwaukee. It has a lot of power, but it is heavy, expensive, batt performance is poor in the cold, and it loses its charge if not used for a couple of weeks. Try to pick one voltage and brand, and buy all your tools around that.

The boss has an 18 volt snap-on gun and I use it all the time.

I might pick up the new snap-on gun that is 620 Bolt Break Away Torque, ft. lb.

I've got a blue point 14.4 that I use all the time, it's 3/8 drive and pretty light. It's nice for the smaller stuff that I do all the time.

28v LI milwak Awsome unit.

Yup.

KICKS ASS. Weights a shit ton, but it's changed all the tires and put together whatever I needed fast :D

I have a 3/8" HF unit I got too w/coupon for the $ can't beat it, but it's no milwakuee as far as power or durability... I am just careful and it lasts :)

I have this one(18V dewalt) and its nothing special , I will used a 15 year old air impact before I use it, it dosent brake lug nuts loose on anything I own.
just about lost a wheel off the tow rig using it to tighten them up:evil:

Yeah, I've tried a few different battery units, not anything I've tried has been able to break my light 140 ft/lb torqued wheels loose. Maybe I'm crazy but I like a nice plug unit or air power if at the shop.
