:mad3:Ok So I have this 77 F-250 4x4 with a 400M and the Distributor is siezed up big time in the block. Well long story short I broke it trying to get it to free up so I get a "new" reman unit from autozone, as Im not to intersted in spending any kind of money on this engine as Im in the process of building a 557 for it any how I put in the new one and there is just all kinds of slop between the dist base and the cap adapt ( and the old one was the same way) so I go ahead and buy a new cap adapt. Same senario still tons of slop it there supposed to be a gasket or something that fits between the dist and the cap adapt or or the hold down clamps on the " new" distributor just junk and thats what the problem is? anybody else seem to have these problems in the past

the distributor swaps from a 400 to a 460 doesnt it?
caps are a bit of a sloppy fit

The hold down clamps are probably just straightened out so they are not holding the adapter down. bend the clamps a little and they will hold it down tighter.

ok thanks, I mostly just wanted to make sure that there wasnt suppsed to be some type of gasket or spacer between the distributor and the cap adapt
