Collecting parts for a SAS and 14b swap into my half ton 99 and just came across a wrecked 2002 3500hd on CL locally. Called him, he wants 200 for the 14b.
Here's my question: I did some searching, and general consensus shows that dually axle's are roughly 3" wider than a SRW axle. Truth to this? Other than that, is their anything I should consider or be aware of before picking this up? I also searched and found that a 2500HD SRW will bolt up to a 1/2 ton. Any difference in perch width with a DRW? Appreciate any help.

1 ton frames are narrower than 1/2 & 3/4 ton frames, or at least they used to be, the spring perches will not line up. Is the truck you are looking a 1 ton or something heavier?

I have a 99 1/2 ton that I want to swap 1 tons into. The 14b rear I want to use as a donor will be pulled from the 2002 1 ton dually.

2002 would be the newer body style, that body style only went through 2000 for the HD trucks, as well as 1/2 year for tahoe/suburban.

HD usually has the 11.5 ring gear I think so parts for that are going to be more $ than a 10.5
Something to think about

Yup, it should have the AAM 11.5 axle, and parts are harder to find.

as mentioned that should be a 11.5
I would pass and find a newer 10.5 axle. I cant recall the year they started it but 03 or so they the 2500 trucks came with it already disk brake equipped, most are 4.10 geared too.
The nice part is this way you get a ready to go axle disk brakes and a working e-brake

I believe my '04 2500HD has the 11.5. It is a Duramax truck though.

the d-max trucks all got the 11.5,
the 6.0 as powered trucks got the 10.5 14 bolt unless it was a dually
